Breaking News: ENTIRE Movie Shown to Austin Crowd

Yeah, someone posted pics in another thread of them setting up at the Sydney opera house. It's pretty huge.

Still, I think Nimoy's comment is more than a little insulting. Why on Earth shouldn't we be the first to see the film - Sydney is as good a place as anywhere.

Oh boo hoo. Nimoy was relating with his audience in front of him in reference to an American film adaptation of an American television series. There are plenty of places seeing the film in wide release a day before US audiences get to anyway.

Right back at ya. :techman:

It'd be like saying "isn't it only right for you British folk to see the new Doctor Who first?"

If RTD was to come out and say "Helsinki is to be the world premiere of this new Doctor Who" and then went ahead and showed it in Liverpool a few hours before because it "didn't seem right" then I'd think that was pretty lame too..

Oh geez... must... avoid... inevitable spoilers!

Yeah right, we'll see how long that lasts.

Damn, I wish I could have been there... the one time I wouldn't have minded being in Texas. ;)

Yeah it's funny I almost didn't go because I was like... man do I really want to see 10 minutes of the new movie? It may reveal too much.

I think it's called playing to the (small) crowd. I seriously doubt that any insult to Australia or Australians was intended. The remarks may not even have been scripted.

One question, to Devon or whomever: which thread should I merge this one with -- the spoilers or non-spoilers discussion thread?

Well point in fact, films have world premieres quite often, they almost always are shown without warning before that.

They have non advertised screenings of almost every major (and often minor) film that gets released. People aren't informed in advance of what they are seeing. Usually to small sized theatre audiences.

If anyone was under the mistaken idea that when they went to a world premiere that it was the actual first time the general public saw a film, then those people are sadly mistaken.

Generally Premieres are the first time the public knowingly has a way to see a film.

That absolutely still applies.

On second thought, before any spoilers have a chance to get into this thread, I'm going to lock it and invite everyone to continue the discussion in one of the two pinned threads at the top of the forum.

Spoilers thread

No-spoilers thread

Closing.
