Breaking Bad

Great season. I'm glad they've moved away from the really drama heavy episodes and found a good middle ground.

I'm still not sure who the bigger fuck-up is, Jesse or Walt. Jesse sure gets the blame for most of it but his screw-ups are usually small and directly a result of Walt messing up something really bad.

It's interesting that though Jesse knows Walt is constantly causing problems on the business side he still falls in line. There still seems to very much be a student/teacher dynamic going.

I think this show is good. It is not clean and pretty like "Weeds" (although I like Weeds too). But I don't have cable, so I have to wait until each season comes out on DVD.

Consenting to perform for two productions of such widely differing calibre. Actors are whores.
That's harsh. The Breaking Bads of TV are very few and far between. ;)

Death, thy name is Walter White.

Wild way to end the season, and entirely unexpected. I was anticipating far more mundane plot twists - DeLancie murders Jesse; a drug gang shoot out takes out Walt's family. Much better the way they did it, with the airplane passengers as stand-ins for all the lives that Walt has squelched off-screen in his zeal to survive.

Would it perhaps have been better if he had simply allowed himself to die? That's not a question I thought this show would ever ask, but it's a legit one.

I'm surprised that he let the PayPal thing go through. Now he has to pay tax on his drug money. :rommie:
OoohOOOhhh! Let the Feds have their pound of flesh and the rest of your ill gotten booty will be left alone. How very SMART!

Seems to me if they fell from the plane that they wouldn't be as "intact" as depicted by the body bags.
To be a bit grisly here, in the teaser segment I tried to deduce which character might be in the bag going by size. It was far too large to be Holly, but too small (and light, judging from the ease by which the paramedics hefted it) for any of the adults. I figure it was a partial adult corpse or intended to represent the corpse of the child who owned the stuffed animal.

I believe gift donations of under $12,000 per person are not taxed. Of course, the taxation would happen at the giver's end rather than the giftee's end. Walt won't be paying any taxes...which leaves him open to tax fraud allegations. Of course, he was already open to fraud allegations (using zombie bots to turn people into unwitting accomplices in his money laundering scheme).

^ Looks like you're right. The donor is taxed. It also looks like it's up to $13,000. per person, per year. I wonder if that could still create problems for Walt. Probably not if they're small amounts like we've been seeing.

Additional plus for Walt: For gift amounts under $13,000 per person (per year), the donor does not have to file any tax paperwork. That's $13,000 per giftee (rather than per donor), so it won't impact any other gifts given by the donor.

Banks might red-flag (for the IRS) amounts above four or five thousand dollars, but I doubt they would even notice amounts of two or three thousand per person.
