Maybe some kind soul with the Blu-ray can answer this one.

Are Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley wearing some sort of protective booties over their normal boots here? Such a thing is not unheard of...but I'd just now noticed it. Funny how after a zillion viewings, new things still pop up about this show!

It just looks like their boots are covered from the ankle down in fine dusty dirt from doing take after take in Bronson Canyon.

The HD caps show just what Greg is saying, their usual uniform boots.

I don't have These are the Voyages yet so I don't know if it's in there, but I believe that Shatner's expensive Kirk boots were damaged during the rough and tumble scenes of "Shore Leave" and had to be replaced. And that would be why he wore lace-up boxer boots for the rough outdoor scenes in "Arena." They didn't want to destroy another pair of his good ones just two episodes later.

I wasn't sure, so that's why I posted. When watching, I said "Wow, their boots are dirty." (well, not out loud...you know how it is!). But then it occurred to me that their boots were all equally dirty, which led me to wondering.
