Brands that were once popular....

Had to laugh at "Piggly Wiggly" When I was in college (the first time) my dishes were the ones you got as premiums for buying groceries at Piggly Wiggly. The dinner plates were like crockery, and they weighed about 5 pounds each! Ha!

Arthur Treachers was better than LJS. Haven't seen one of them in ages though.

Totally Agree! Used to go to the one in Niles, Il in my younger days.

We went to the Waukegan IL one a couple times in the 70's.

It's Hillery's BAR-B-Q north now, and Hillery's isn't nearly as good as they once were, so they're kind of a brand I miss.

Ah, Waukegan...they have seen some changes over the years...

Remember "Salvo" Laundry Detergent Tabs? God. how I loved that commercial with the fist coming out of the washer, as if to beat the dirt to death. Now, even saying the word and imagining it being equated with laundry makes me laugh!!! SALVO!!!!

That's putting it very, very nicely. Waukegan could be another "brand" that is long gone.

What about the McDLT from McDonalds that kept 'The hot side hot, and the cold side cool'? I don't know if it was ever really popular but I liked it and I remember the dual clamshell packaging.

'Oh the picture's you missed before the Kodak Disc.' - Don't remember much about the product but I remember the slogan.

^I had forgotten the "disc camera." Word was the pictures were pretty bad because of the small negative format.

And... remember trading stamps? The "S&H green stamp" was dominant where I lived and I think most places. Stores used to have "we give green stamps" signs on the light poles in the parking lot. I remember my mom got some glass tumblers or something with the stamp book once, but normally we didn't pay much attention to it, I think she threw them away mostly.

It must have been a generational thing - I remember my grandmother using the Green Stamps a couple of times while shopping.
Speaking of stamps - Columbia House Records and Tapes where you could get twelve albums for a penny. You just peeled the stamps with album cover on it that you liked, stuck them on self addressed mail order form, sent it off, and in a few weeks they'd show up. Of course they didn't tell you that you had to pay full price plus shipping and handling on any subsequent purchase. I'm trying to remember if me or my family ever bought any that way.

Mom got many things with S&H Green Stamps... mainly for the kitchen. My aunt collected Betty Crocker stamps which came on boxes of their products, IIRC. She got cookbooks and other stuff with them. Now they have become Box Tops for Education.

We had Greenback stamps that were given out with grocery purchases and could be redeemed at Greenback stores for household stuff - almost like tickets from playing skeeball. Mostly my mom got kitchen stuff, but one time she got me a pretty neat black spaceship electronic toy, too.

If you think about it, the whole thing Kenner and Hasbro used to do where you could clip and send in five proofs of purchase from action figure packages to get a special exclusive figure (I got Emperor Palpatine) was just another form of this, too.

What were the yellow stamps called? And weren't there Plaid stamps, too? My mother was fanatical about collecting them in the little books for that purpose.
