Brands that were once popular....

The restaurant I miss is Ground Round. They had awesome BBQ ribs and cole slaw.

Ah, Ground Round! Ours turned into a Hooters. I remember peanut shells on the floors, and a deal that. On the Kids Menu, children were charged for their weight. There was a big Toledo scale, and it was a really good deal. The food was good, the service nice and fun, atmosphere excellent, beer very cold...of course they went out of business. #sarcasm.

I wonder if it was the shells on the floor and some kind of series of lawsuits?

It was out of blue IIRC. We had one where I grew up. The employees there said in an interview later on that they thought the chain was in a good shape, including the manager.

Apparently the manager got a call in middle of the lunch service. He was told to have his staff box everyone's meals and send them out immediately.

That might be why Lonestar Steakhouse stopped doing the same thing, but I think it was a waitress that slipped & fell in their case.

At the Ground Round my family always went to in Wauwatosa, their gimmick was free popcorn while having old black-and-white Disney cartoons on projection screens. I think the company went into receivership about ten years ago and some franchisees got together to buy the brand. I know a new store just opened up in the Brookfield area of Milwaukee a few months ago.

I miss the old space food sticks. Not as waxy as Tootsie Rolls.

The Aussies still have them, I think.

I remember plastic popsicle sticks for awhile in the 1970's, with interesting patterns

An Automat opened back up in NYC a few years ago. However it didn't last very long and closed not too long after opening.

I'm pretty sure I saw one a couple years ago or so. I can't recall where.

Are Five Guys and Texas Roadhouse still doing the peanut thing?

There's many, MANY Five Guys locations--but no one throws shells on the floor. There are TONS of Texas Roadhouse locations and yes, they do still allow people to toss the shells on the floor.
