box office

I Know What You Did Last Summer grossed $46 million at the box office,

Let me say right here that I was wrong about the prospects for this box office topic. It's turned out to be very active after all.

As one of the people promoting the idea, I say thank you. I will add that I've found this thread to be very interesting and informative. I enjoy reading about the numbers when I'm not sifting through a discussion thread to follow a conversation about the movie or series, and I was pleasantly surprised by that.

The final count on FF is slightly lower than estimated.

A 10.5 million dollar take on its first Monday puts FF on track for a 46-48 million dollar second weekend - at least, according to the folks who track movies over at Box Office Theory.

Eighteen days after its first previews, Superman has surpassed Man of Steel's total domestic box office receipts during its original fifteen-week U.S. theatrical run.

Jurassic World is the Energizer Raptor of summer blockbusters, this year.

The true story of this Superman's theatrical performance will be told in the final, global box office earnings. So far, its grossed $506,554,041, while in 2013, Man of Steel earned $670,145,518 worldwide--$379,100,000 of that from the international market (courtesy of Box Office Mojo), making it the most successful Superman film of this century so far (2006's misguided Superman Returns only earned $391,081,192 worldwide). So, we will see if Gunn's Superman can earn another $163,591,477 just to match Man of Steel's global earnings.

The current world economic state is probably not going to support that number. Also, Man of Steel came out before streaming was a big deal.

Not to mention the prospects of superhero movies in the Chinese market were different back then. These days the genre is pretty much dead over there. Hell, even A Minecraft Movie made less than half of what MoS did in China, so it's not just superhero movies. When it comes to Hollywood movies this year only Jurassic World Rebirth somehow managed to top MoS's Chinese box office, which btw was almost half of what Iron Man 3 did in China that same year, just for context here. And JW is a monster movie set on an island, a genre that is very popular in China.
China just has really upped their own film market to the point that there is little interest in Hollywood movies anymore.

This is something that the major studios have to come to grips with in the coming years, and probably adjust budgets and/or find new revenue streams. Probably even more licencing deals.

As somebody mentioned (maybe on this thread), Southeast Asian countries are having economic difficulties right now.

FF's been underperforming there as well.
