Hate to post twice in a row, but I've just seen a story saying that MGM's woes have resulted in the next Bond movie being put on hold.

Here's hoping we don't get a 6 year delay like we did between Licence to Kill and Goldeneye. I did a post a few months ago pointing out the similarities between LTK and QOS, but I wasn't expecting history to repeat itself offscreen too!

Is there an echo in here? :p

I don't know if it's been said already, but when you're comparing the J.Bs....don't forget Jack Bauer!

GIven the success of the above three JBs, Tom Clancy must wish he'd called Jack Ryan Jack Bryan or Jack Burke or some surname beginning with B. The movie series might have been more successful!

I'd be interested to see the totals, but despite the fantastic decades-long success of the Fleming books, I bet Clancy has sold more.

In movie terms Bond does a tap dance on Jack Ryan, but in book terms I think Clancy is laughing all the way to the bank.

I did like HUNT FOR RED OCOTOBER, and I still think Alec Baldwin made the better Jack Ryan.

What's interesting is how much people whine on here about being true to the source material or being a faithful adaptation (to say nothing about what some people freaked out over regarding the last Star Trek movie, or the one guy who thinks movies made from comic books should only use the exact dialog and scenes in the comics), yet the last two Bourne movies share the same name of the novels and nothing else.

As I just said elsewhere, stories that work well on the page don't necessarily work on the big screen.

For the record, I fully supported the actions Star Trek's writers took. It made perfect sense to do what they did.

I guess I never posted in this before despite it being an older thread.
Since the poll states 'best series now' I went with Bourne. No way to tell if we'll actually get more Bourne as we've had since the shakeup with that series and Paul Greengrass not on board.

Bond overall is the better series but it does have quantity on its side. More movies=more chances to shine.

If Bourne continues over 3 decades it'll have dips as well same for Jack Ryan since a 5th movie is now in the works for that character. Its actually got more than Bourne commited to film. Maybe Ryan should've been in the poll making for 3 choices?

I dont want to over do it..you should start a thread to debat the Jack Ryan series..could be interesting...

I voted for Bourne.

However I based that on the initial post which is specifically comparing recent Bond to the Bourne Trilogy.

Comparing Bond and Bourne is really apple to oranges comparisons. One is supposed to be very real and one is supposed to be a fanciful spy who is a playboy at heart. And as a trilogy, the Bourne movies are more focused and coherent. The Bond series ranges over a large set but it also spans several decades in movie-making. So, if you're talking about Bond overall vs Bourne overall - I would have probably gone with being a fence-sitter since they can't be compared.

With all the badass guys whose initials are JB...who else could hold their own in a fight?
I nominate James Brown (pre-mortem).

I pretty much love DAD up to the airplane finale. An invisible car I can live with (because jet packs, laser beam watches, hollowed out volcanoes and space rockets that eat other space rockets are so fucking believable aren't they!) but sticking Toby Stevens in a robot suit was just criminal...plus I really wanted Rosamund Pike to kick Halle Berry's arse!

If nothing else DAD was fun, and for me in the whole Bond vs Bourne debate that is the operative word, fun. Bond films are fun, Bourne films, well they aren't.

And yeah Bourne fought a guy with a rolled up newspaper, so what? Roger Moore once killed a guy with a flick of his tie!
