Bought a Wii....

I've never gotten into Metroid. Although I agree with all of the points you mentioned. Weird.

As for Wii Fit, I was thinking about picking it up, but did not because I figured it wasn't going to really be a good workout. Did I have the wrong impression?

I thought the same thing, but my legs are telling me otherwise ;)

Definitely a good workout

What kind of workouts do you do with it?

I haven't unlocked all of them yet, but so far you can do yoga, I've run in place, I've done lunges, pushups, step aerobics. And the instructor knows when you're not exercising. He/she even calls you out on it.

I looked the Fit up on Nintendo's site. It looks pretty cool. Not sure if I'm going to spend money on it though. I'd have to work out in my living room and the carpeting in there is kind of poofy. How would the Fit board handle that? Does it need a hard surface?

Also check this out. My Wii Fit made me Fat :guffaw:

You can play it on hard flooring, but if you have carpet it comes with four extensions for the sensors, so it can be done on carpeting too.

Link:

And the instructor even let's you know if your pose is incorrect or if you're slacking while training. It's really well made in that respect.

That's hilarious. And I feel for him as that was about my first experience with the wii as well. They really should measure muscle or fat to make a better evaluation if they want to keep the BMI feature.

I've never gotten into Metroid.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd never played a Metroid game until Metroid Prime came along on the Gamecube. And that game ruined the experience for me as I just found it too tough. In particular I recall this boss fight (and forgive me, it's been awhile and I'm probably screwing up the details) where you had to fight this giant plant thingy by flipping this mirrors that was giving it sunlight for power. What I soon discovered that while I was on one side of the room flipping a mirror, the boss was flipping back the one you just took care of. How it was possible to beat this boss was beyond me. I never could get past that part and it was the end of my short-lived Metroid career.

I love the Metroid games, well... Metroid, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission. The first person aspect just kind of killed it.

I played Metroid Prime on the GameCube and thought it was okay. I used the guide to get all one hundred percent. But, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes just really did nothing for me, and I gave up halfway through. Now, I did see the Metroid Prime Trilogy coming out. Maybe I'll rent it first, see if my feelings have changed about it, that way I'm not out $50.

Yes, definitely a good workout and I think really great for everyone, especially kids, for developing better core strength and better balance. My 8 yo loves the Fit the most of us all. The only issue I can see, and online blogs agree, is using it on a consistant basis. I've now gone 5 months without using it.

We tend to play Mario Kart and Excitebots the most right now. A co-worker got the new Ghostbusters game and even though the graphics are cartoonier than the other formats he says it's good fun. So I'll probably get that after turning in some games at gamestop.

I get the feeling you will probably love Metroid: Other M

Well I rejoined the world of Wii ownership tonight. Just got it set up, (Mii created, internet connection established, firmware update, etc) and even played Boom Blox for a few minutes. Kind of realized I really missed it more than I knew. I picked up Tiger Woods 10 (with Motion Plus) and Conduit today. Looking forward to trying them out soon.

Well, I bought Super Mario Galaxy, and I have to say, it's pretty damn fun! I thought Mario 64 was alright, nothing special, HATED Mario Sunshine, but I'm already 40 stars into this game and enjoying it!

The established Nintendo franchises (Mario, Samus Aran, etc.) are all safe bets. Punch-Out is pretty fun, too. No More Heroes and MadWorld have gotten pretty good reviews if you want something more serious. But sadly the vast majority of their games are just cheap crap thrown out there to capitalize on their new market base.

Buy Mario Kart and a gamecube controller ;) the wheel is ok but is a little dodgy sometimes.
