Even if they did, the tradition is to smash a bottle of champagne against the ship. LeBarre is not part of the Champagne wine region, at least not in this century.

Perhaps more importantly, smashing a bottle of Chateau Picard just further sets up Trek as its own incestuous, self-referential little universe where everything must be intricately connected to everything else.

The opening credits of Generations, as we all know, has that bottle flying through space, and eventually smashing into the ENTERPRISE B...but usually, when a ship in commisioned like that, the honor comes from the person who BREAKS the bottle across the bow, or whatever...

It isn't shown..but what dignitary do you think would have been the person so honored? Kirk, before he came onto the bridge?? Perhaps Christopher Pike, wheel chair and all, was allowed to visit from Talos 4??

Wow... if anyone had asked me, I would have sworn that the bottle did say Chateau Picard. I had to run off to Trek Core to make sure I'm not crazy. Looks like I am.
