One thing that struck me watching that episode - they've raised the issue of racism repeatedly now, including the argument, that Crane, Poole & Schmidt is racist for not hiring black lawyers and having no black partners: but then: why the hell didn't they hire more black actors to play in their damn show? How is that not racist too?

Clarence.

Anyway, it's only racist if they're doing it because they don't want black actors on their show.

It's not racist if black actors do not audition for their show or if no black actors meet their "standard of quality" for a cast member. (Talking talent only.)

Clarence.
Yes, Clarence. One out of how many actors who've appeared on the show?

Sure, but what I said is exactly the argument, Alan made against Crane, Pool & Schmidt. And I have trouble accepting that explanation, if you look for example at The Wire - where are all those fine black actors in other tv shows?

Anyway my point is, the producers of Boston Legal have white liberal characters ranting against institutional racism while doing exactly the same things; talk is cheap. And I have the same criticism in regards to the sexism on Boston Legal, Denny groping women all the time and stuff like that - since when is sexual harassment funny? Boston Legal is sometimes extremely hypocritical imo.

The thing with Denny is we're supposed to laugh at his absurdity as he represents a lot of them and as we're laughing at him we're supposed to recognise the abusrdity of it and see how wrong it is.

As for the race thing? All I can do is shrug. Yeah, for whatever reason there've not been any major black actors on the show. There was Calrence and then Whintey in Season 4 - who was mostly a background character, it seems as she didn't do a whole lot; but I doubt it was on the part of any racism on the creators' part was at play.

It could just be that having a prominent black cast memeber didn't fit their "vision" of the show, it could be having a black cast memember just because they don't have one is more racist, I don't know. It could be the network/studio on that all too important 18-35 White Male demographic.

I can say that from some of the cases they wrote they took on racism and how unfairly skewed the law tends to be against black-men.

I just don't know.

Simply the greatest episode of BOSTON LEGAL to date and the best ever produced from David E Kelly in any show.

Okay, I think I need to loan you guys BL seasons 1 & 2 on DVD ~ cause folks, tonight's episode was not good television. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good.

I miss the real BL. You know, the BL that was sexy and witty and smart. The BL that won Emmy awards.

I'm sorry. I still love the show. It's just kinda painful watching once intelligent vibrant characters morph into parodies of themselves.

Seriously, the Alan Shore from The Practice would not recognize the Alan Shore from this season of BL.

Lets hope they end with something better than this.

I completely agree, the first three years of Boston legal feel like a completely different show then the last two years.

However that episode had some of the best family, loving momenets in a long time, and that's what made it so sweet.

They have had a few darker skinned characters over the life of the show, all side characters and all of which I loved. However like the less name white actors they were all fired.

Fantastic episode. I laughed, I cried.

I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss these guys.

Jerry hinted at a possible spin-off a few episodes back. Any truth to that, or were they just being cute?

They were being cute.

David E. Kelly is planning his 1,098st law show, so if a network really wanted to they could just make it a so called spinoff, but I doubt it.

In the final episode, I want Denny to shoot Carl and as he lay dying Denny says "I TOLD YOU I'd kill you later!"

;)

If Jerry ends up with Katie. He's going to be one lucky guy. He's going to run out of pops and need a lot more wooden cigarettes.

This show could pretty much run with just the characters of Alan, Denny, and Shirley (and sometimes not even her). Everyone else is either icing on the cake or superfluous, depending on what you think of the actor and/or the character. Is it a shame that Clarence got left by the wayside and Whitney faded into the background completely? Yes, but it's not racism. The vast majority of the supporting characters on BL get marginalized regardless of their race or gender.

The finale will be December 8th, it will contain the last two episodes (it's not a continued storyline, just two episodes stuck together), and begin at 9 eastern. It sounds outrageous of course. I think it will end with a bang.

From some of the stuff I heard about the two will be loosley connected but not a direct 2 parter.

The whole show is "loosely connected".

As in crossed over storyline mainly involving the firms fate & Denny's MAD COW (bot not being listed as a two parter) - I'll draw you a pic next time ;)
