Boring Movies That Put You To Sleep

I tried to watch the Star Wars prequels. I fell asleep every single time.

The same has happened with some of the just-ended season of Doctor Who.

I fell asleep in the theater during one of the Harry Potter films, I don't remember which one, since I'm not really a fan anyway. I mean, you have a school full of wizards and sorcerers skilled in the dark arts, why didn't they just kill Hitler in 1933, saving tens of millions of lives?

Batman Begins. Lunesta on film or hard drive. Most forgettable hero and villain of any superhero movie, ever.

This is going back a ways, but Power, "starring" Richard Gere knocked me right out. And I was even on a date with a hot older woman (I was 27, she was 42). And no, falling asleep didn't immediately ruin my chances with her. We were together 7 years before I got tired of her turning down at least two marriage proposals.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I fell asleep twice just typing up that title. Good cast, I love Westerns (albeit the tone of this one is somewhat unconventional), it was critically acclaimed, and I recognize that it's a very well made and acted film, but damn it just bored me to tears. The fact that I was really looking forward to seeing it and was disappointed probably doesn't help, nor does the runtime (which was actually a much shorter version of the film than the director originally intended).

Good choice. It's not a bad movie, but it just seemed like it would never end. That damn dry as hell narrative worsened matters considerably

I don't think contemplative movies that move slowly but with excellent cinematography and emotional precision like Solaris should be considered boring. They are not everyone's cup of tea but if you can focus in with a healthy attention span they can be extremely rewarding.

There are films like Transformers that move a lot more quickly but are a lot more tedious because there's no real emotional content and everything is just candy animation with things blowing up buildings falling down in the background.
Actually, my OP reflected that very sentiment. Those movies are supposed to be epic sci-fi action type movies, but I really felt no inspiration in any of them, which lulled me right out

Whereas, 2001 or TMP have deliberate slow pacing, but I find them much more intellectually engaging. I actually think Nolan's Interstellar is in that group now too

It is of course subjective, according to people's personal tastes, but that's just how it works for me

My current top 3 snoozefests

John Carter
The Chronicles of Riddick
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

To this day, I don't think I've seen the end of any of those

I actually liked 'John Carter' for what is was and never bothered with 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' (looked crap) but yeah, twice now I've tried to watch 'The Chronicles of Riddick' and twice I fell asleep in the attempt. I think the second time I got like 45 mins, but even so the only thing I can remember is that someone on the production design team *really* like Lynch's 'Dune'. And also the kid from 'Pitch Black' was recast and made much much less interesting.

The Matrix (took several attempts over several years to get though it).
Solaris (never got through it).
Transformers movies.

Interstellar was borderline.

I do like 2001, The Motion Picture, Dances With Wolves and The English Patient though.

Well, it bored the crap out of me.

OTOH, I was blown away by 2001: A Space Odyssey the first time (and the second, third and fourth times) I saw it. If I find it at all boring now, that's only because I've seen the picture at least ten times.

I have been wanting to watch Man from Earth for some time.. a sci fi film written by a good writer, featuring a few trek alumni, that is all dialogue. I plan on making it but every time I watch it, I am snoozing

The Matrix- I hated the first one so much I not only didn't finish it, I never bothered with the other two.

The Fifth Element- I don't even remember what this mess was about, and I don't want to know.

All the Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars movies.

Also I just recently watched "Scrooged" (1988? Christmas Carol remake). How that movie got made, I don't know.

We will never be friends. :( Nah, just kidding. I just love all these movies.

Movies that put me to sleep:

2001: A Space Odyssey, a.k.a. Crap Floating in Space (thank you, Confused Matthew).

TMP

The Matrix Sequels

I've nevere fallen asleep watching a movie but for those that do I've got a radical solution to falling asleep during movies that bore you. Wait for it it's a master stroke change the channel or do something else. (Unless of course your aim is to fall asleep).

For some reason, I usually fall asleep if the movie revolves around a certain type of landscape (either desert or ice). So, I can't watch westerns (with the exception of Blazing Saddles and Django Unchained) or movies set in the Antarctic (like AvP or The Thing).

What about films like Lawrence of Arabia or Flight of the Phoenix films which are largely set in the desert?

I haven't fallen asleep while watching a movie. If it bores me, I turn it off.

But a relative of mine fell asleep on two different occasions by watching "Stargate Universe".

There certainly is no accounting for differences in taste, is therre? The Matrix starts out with that incredible fight (and then) chase scene. That didn't get you? I was riveted from the first and I knew nothing about the movie going in.

Agree about Solaris.

I have never fallen asleep during a film. But then again, I have an attention span that lasts more than three minutes.

If something bores me, I simply get up and do something else. If I want to watch a movie, I watch it; if I don't, then I turn it off.
