What are the major differences from the movie??
Comic book publisher Boom! Studios has released a graphic novel adaptation of Rod Serling's original Planet of the Apes script, which was very different from the final version that ended up on screen. The comic's script is written by Dana Gould, with art by Chad Lewis.
IGN has an article up with features a 20 page preview, and an interview with Gould, Lewis and editor Dafna Pleban.
I haven't read this yet, but I definitely plan to.

The main character is named Thomas with a completely different personality, and it's set in a '60s era city, rather than the more primitive setting we got in the final version. I stopped at the spoiler warning in the interview, so I don't know for sure, but it sounds like the end is different two.

So it sounds more like the original book written by Pierre Boulle.
