Books that poke fun at ST (in a lighthearted way)

Kiel Stuart wrote some very funny parodies of individual episodes (and one of Star Trek III) back in the 80s in the Best of Trek volumes.

I enjoyed Redshirts a lot. Night of the Living Trekkies not so much - it was funny and very clever (every chapter title is the title of a Trek episode, from one serieso r another), but it felt like the joke went on too long, and I put it aside and never came back to it.

My sister gave me Fun with Kirk and Spock for my last birthday. What a hoot! I hope the author will do a TNG "primer," as well!

There was a manga series in the 90s from Antartic Press called 'Star Trekker' about the crew of the USS Constellation II who were always showing up after the events of the movies and being told 'You should have been here to see Kirk rescue everybody'. I thought it was pretty funny.

Indeed. And lots of TMP aliens! There was a trade paperback omnibus reprint, and there was supposed to be a second collection, but they were asked by Paramount/Viacom not to publish it. Eventually, I sought out the original comics.

David Reddick, who does the Gene's Journal and Rod and Barry webcomics as well as The Trek Life and Intelligent Life comic strips created a tabletop card game called Redshirts that resembles Star Trek. The point of the game is to get absolutely everybody killed.
