Bookmarks

people who dog-ear should be punched. :klingon: it's disrespectful.

Punching people is kinda disrespectful too. I don't use bookmarks unless I'm on a plane and have my ticket handy. I pretty much just open the book to about where I think I left off and start reading. This means I'm not as efficient about reading, but it allows me to savour the book a bit longer.

The Kindle has robbed me of this joy and finds where I left off with ruthless precision.

For a real book, which means a ...spare-time reading book, I use a bought book mark. My favourite is a stuffed dog...very cute...little dog head and paws, a loooooooooooooooooooong flat body and down the other paws. While reading the book I like playing around with it, its so soft.

Oh, I would love one of these!

I just use whatever's handy (which means I have to double check my library books before I return them because "handy" can sometimes be the electricity bill  )

^ I can read a paperback just fine and keep the spine stiff. In fact, that's exactly how I've always read them.

It bothers me, because the book always wants to spring closed. Perhaps it's because I often like to read one-handed, with it either propped up or flat on a table. That's tough to do if the spine is stiff.

I broke the spine on one of my craft books because it was the only way I could get it to lay flat enough to photocopy the patterns in it :(. I wish more craft books came spiral bound.

^ All of my books look like new. That either means I take care of them, or that I don't read them. You decide. :p

But if you take care of them, that means you love them. But if you love them, then they are well worn, but if they are well worn, you do not love them...

Norman! COORDINATE!

;)

I was wondering whether anybody else here did that.

I never bother with bookmarks, and I've gotten pretty good over the years with finding my place again straight away.

When I'm at home I'm also inclined to leave books lying around face down, open on the last page I read.

I have a gold colored metal bookmark and a silver one, but I forget where I got them. I also have a Star Trek bookmark my sister gave me for Xmas in the early 90s. I have a red leather bookmark with tassel as well but I rarely use it.

OMG I'd have a fit if somebody did that, the poor spine!

I either dog-ear or don't bother and just flick through to figure out where I left off; only takes a moment or two anyway. If I'm just putting it down for a short while to do something else and then come back to the book, I do like SiorX and leave it upside-down, open to the page.
