I don't talk about it much on here but, as an anime fan, I read sub-titles all the time.

Turning it back to Trek, I had no issue with the Klingons speaking in Klingon in the original movies. The thing that struck me as odd would be when they'd suddenly switch to English while there was no one else around. Though I know it was done for dramatic effect.

He was just showing off his English skills...

I thought it was funny as hell!

Shazad Latif said the same thing (May start). I think you are right that this actor will not be needed in the first few episodes so he comes in later. Similarly the Tyler character is not going to be there initially as he is now with the Klingons.

Shazad may have a nice long break from DSC before they need him back. Plenty of time for other acting gigs in the UK and elsewhere.

He’s probably starting later then whoever is filming in April.

He meant Captain April. He'll be filming on the April's ship set. That's right. Live action Robert April in season 2.

Re the Klingon / Subtitle thing, I maintain that it wouldn't have been noticed as much if they had gone with a better font. Using a highly-serifed, center-justified font made it a challenge to read, even for those of us who don't really mind subtitles. I'm unclear why they didn't just go with a standard plain san-serif subtitle font.

They probably did. Perhaps the Black Badge contingent on Discovery were there to pull the plug on Lorca should he try to attack Federation targets or something.

Just like they are trying to recruit MU Georgiou, it makes sense that they recruited MU Lorca.
