TVLine has learned exclusively that Geoff Stults, whose credits include theABC drama (as well as 7th Heaven and Happy Town), will front the planted pilot, which will air as the 19th episode of Bones‘ current season.
Based on The Locator series of two books written by Richard Greener, the prospective new series centers on Walter Sherman aka “the Locator,” a former military policeman who can find anything.
Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) previously was cast as Walter’s partner Leo, a tough, raw-hide cowboy philosopher.
So... we know at least one of FOX's shows is going to have to go. I'm willing to be money on Human Target.

Joe Don:

Fox will just cancel it!
This show is going to have the fanbase of Bones, and they will probably air on the same night.

It will also probably get at least one post-American Idol slot to promote it

Billy Bob:

I don't like procedurals. I want more sci-fi!
That's okay. I'm kind of excited about this. I'm a little bit behind on Bones though. I need to get back to Netflixing it affter I finish my Farscape rewatch

The thing about spinoffs, you really don't need to be up to date on the original show.

And I doubt it can match the cast chemistry of Bones, which is what draws me to the show. I don't watch any other show of that type (since Quincy or early NYPD Blue anyway).

Wait... so there'll be at least two cop shows on television now? Because I was planning on gutting kittens live on the Internet unless some TV network promised me there'll be at least two tv cop shows in 2011. Only then will the voices in my head led me alone.

It's only been picked up for a pilot, doesn't mean Fox will pick up the show.

Also Fox has ZERO room for new shows (The X Factor will be 3 hours a week) , several shows will have to be cut / at least bumped. In the order of most likely to be canceled...

Human Target
Fringe
Lie To Me (But I think it will only stay around as a summer show / fall filler if something implodes.)

Is it a spin-off when the character has never been on the show prior to the stealth pilot?

Yes.

There will appear in the 19th episode this season, so spin off. This is actually how every spin off on network TV right now started, Criminal Minds / It's Spin off, NCIS / LA, Grey's a Whore and Private Practice.

They don't heavily publicize spinoff news like this unless they're going ahead with the series. I can't think of the last time a backdoor pilot didn't get a full series order.

That's very true, I think they might stick it on after House, and maybe Terra Nova on Tuesday after Glee. There is literally no room left.

So it's kinda like how Assignment: Earth would have been a pilot for a Gary Seven show?

I doubt I'll watch it though, like another poster the cast chemistry is the main reason why I watch Bones.

You would think Bones and Bones spinoff might be the way to go though the spinoff could partner House if Chicago Code fails next months. However more realistically I can see either the spinoff or the parent show moving to Fridays because of the lack of room on FOX.

I still think Terra Nova will be a mega failure and be moved before Fringe on Friday.

I'm being optimistic. :)

I am figuring that the upcoming Chicago Code will flop and that Human Target & Lie to Me will both get cancelled and I still can't fit the Bones spinoff on FOX. I think FOX should make it 13 episodes for midseason but with how strong FOX is looking next season it may have to wait for a Spring launch 2012 and any other new pilot FOX wants out of the already announced Terra Nova and Alcatraz.

if I was FOX...

Monday
Alcatraz - House

Tuesday
Bones - Glee

Wednesday
The X Factor - Raising Hope (1 episode when X Factor drops to 90 minutes then double episodes when X Factor drop to 1 hour + repeat same cycle for Idol)

Thursday
The X Factor - Terra Nova

Friday
Hells Kitchen - Fringe

Sunday (starting from 8pm not 7pm)
The Simpsons - American Dad - Family Guy - The Cleveland Show

I would make House and American Dad final seasons with cost and contracts probably going to end House and American Dad finishing due to ratings. I also would consider a Human Target/Fringe double but I doubt FOX will. You also could think about pushing Glee to thursday with the results show and moving Terra Nova to tuesdays ?

Kitchen Nightmares would replace Hells Kitchen in midseason and the Bones spinoff would appear somepoint in 2012 but only for 13 episodes, question is where ? Bones low demo and rising costs due to being in year 7 next season could lead to a slightly shorter season maybe for a wrap up with the spinoff taking its place ?

Please tell me FOX has no other shows  where the hell are they gloing to put them. At this rate FOX might have to consider becoming a 10-11pm network for some nights. FOX could have a kick ass 2011-2012 at this rate.

Well besides the two you mentioned there are these pilots....

Exit Strategy
Written by David Guggenheim (Safe House); Produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci; Ethan Hawke stars
“Ethan Hawke will play Eric Shaw in the drama Fox describes as a ‘high-octane action show about a CIA extraction team.’” Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) will direct the pilot.
Touch
Written by Tim Kring (Heroes)
“The hourlong drama centers on a father who discovers his autistic, mute son can actually predict events before they happen.”
Little in Common
Written by Rob Thomas (Party Down)
Centers on families whose children play little league sports.”
Iceland
Written by Andy Brobow (Community)
“A single-camera ensemble comedy centered on a group of friends who are reunited and nurture each other after the death of one of their own.”
Tagged
Written by David Guarascio and Moses Port (Aliens in America)

“A workplace comedy set at the Baltimore County coroner’s office and centers on the dysfunctional relationship between a logical pathologist father and his emotional son.”

Comedies can fit anywhere. Fox will NEVER do a 10pm hours because they have a ton of shows now, but after next year they won't. Plus the local news station will revolt, much like they did at NBC for the exact opposite reason. So they will throw everything unto the fire in hopes to replace the dying House and Bones. After that all they have is Glee, and most of the actors on Glee will be gone after next season too. Every drama Fox has tried this year has failed and Terra Tova will most likely fail next year because the cost will be too high for the demand. Honestly it sounds so stupid most here don't want to watch it.

I think a mid season premiere for The Locator (That is the name of the spinoff ) after American Idol Thursday (Where Bones is right now) would work the best.

Let's hope it's better than season 5 of Bones. (I haven't seen the current sixth season yet.)

Maybe it's because I caught up on the entire series on Netflix in the past year or so (e.g., much more rapidly than someone watching it live), but Brennan's deteriorated from socially inept yet likable to a complete idiot with Asperger's syndrome in the course of a single season. I don't know if they changed writers or what may have happened, but it came about very abruptly.

It came off that way to the people watching the show week to week too, trust me. She is an idiot! Season 6 is a disaster too.

I felt Bones has improved in season 5 & 6 compared to the lackluster 2nd half of season 3 and season 4. The show biggest problem is it struggle a bit with good season finales.

I kinda felt she devolved in S6 to how she was early on, more socially inept.
