Bob Orci open to the possibility of Khan

Now that I've got that out of my system, can someone explain to me what a remake of either "Space Seed" or "TWOK" could offer that would make it worth doing besides 'splosions?
As far as I'm concerned, we need a "Boldly Going" movie to follow up this. Come up with a space mystery of some kind. Have a faceless enemy, plus maybe one with a face - a rival of sorts that the crew ultimately has to work with. Someone like, IDK, Kor.

Simple. A villain who isn't frothing at the mouth, and a bit charming besides. Anyone ever seen "100 Things I Will Not Do If I Become An Evil Overlord"?

I always thought it would be very very very cool if we had a villain who had read the list, with a bit of charm tacked on. Yes, it makes things harder for the writers, but that's one of the points of the list, to avoid cliche.
You want a real villain who could be a genuine menace, that's the starting point
(And if you haven't read the list, do so - it's instructive and gut bustingly funny).
ETA: hee's two I could see in Trek if care isn't exercised in the writing process:

Sorry, if I have to choose between scenery-chewing villains blowing shit up and a "political crisis" I'll go with the blowing-shit-up option every time. It's just as intelligent and a lot less pretentious.
One would hope that there are options better than those two, of course.
I'm open to the possibility of Khan only if it isn't a complete relaunch of "Space Seed". I think the introduction and/or mention of Khan in this new universe would be a nice touch (especially considering he is out there), but as far as a full-on plot focused on him? No thanks.

i liked both space seed and wrath of khan but they were enough.
i would rather they do new things but if they want to reexplore tos there are a lot of other people and story ideas i wish they would revisit.

I do not want Khan in the next film. And from the looks of the poll, over 80% of fan(boy/girl)s do not want Khan in the next movie.
I don't mind if they use elements from TOS in the next movie. But a rehash of ANY TOS episode is bound to fail. Please no retreads.

I don't want all of the best Trek films/villians/episodes retold. I thought the whole point of rebooting was to start from scratch and not cribbing from what other more talented Trek writers had done previously.
At this rate, I'm becoming less interested with the new film franchise and hope that in the next few years Trek returns but in the prime universe where different writers can explore on the smallscreen.

This is likely true... That being said, though, I suppose it's possible to 'essentially' re-do an episode... after all this movie was, to me, a spiritual re-hash of 'The Doomsday Machine'. It had all the elements: Giant planet-killer. Check. Chucking of a starship into it's maw. Check. Shrugs off everything thrown at it. Check. Beaten with last minute heroics by Enterprise crew. Check. The only real difference was that the planet-killer had a 'voice' in Nero.
This wasn't necessarily a bad thing... Using similar tricks, they could cover a lot of the better elements of TOS without actually 'using' any of the established characters like Khan, etc. And hopefully without using the Klingons... Frankly, I for one, don't want to see them just as badly as people here don't want to see Khan...
This does come to an interesting point eventually, though, wherein we have to decide just how much we want this project to diverge from previous history, as it becomes a danger that it will go too far to the other side of avoiding re-hash territory into becoming something unrecognizable as Trek, making the whole exercise rather pointless (why not just start a whole SF franchise from scratch in that case). Some elements will have to be re-used. I suppose the question is how much and how often.
Well since this we're a lot earlier in time than TOS year-wise, we shouldn't see any of those stories retold I'd hope.

The Federation is on the brink of war with the Klingons, the Romulans are playing both sides as they continue to impede the development of the new Vulcan Homeworld-in the meantime the Enterprise is dispatched to secure a vital supply base in the Organia system.
O man, my biggest fear is that this could happen. The first movie was easy-the next one will be the "make or break," and honestly it would be easy to cross the line into farce. I just hope they think it through and fin d a truly compelling story which reveals something new about our characters.

God knows that in the summertime people like to see fun movies with lots of humor, explosions, and nonsensical romance. That is why ID4 was a hit. It's also why Armageddon was a hit. These aren't "good movies," but they're fun enough that most people just don't care.Let's just make a Trek version of Independece Day. It did bonkers at the box office.
So, a Trek film with an evil alien menace that attacks Earth and people are rallied to go fight them? That would be the plots of The Motion Picture, First Contact, Nemesis and the latest Star Trek film.
Um, there's a difference between all of those. Independence Day was totally brainless, and it made almost $310 million in the U.S. To this day, my only response to that box office number is, "God knows why." I really wouldn't like to see a Trek film with a "God knows why" answer to its box office success. (If you know what I mean.)
I know I'm in the minority around here-but I like both of these movies, and watch them at least twice a year. I would argue that they are good movies, and that being said-I think ST 09 is a better movie than either of them.
Oh, I love them too, but I love them because they're mindless fun. Now, if you can make a "summer blockbuster" that has humor, explosions, AND is intelligently written, more power to you. I'm just saying that the latter is not necessarily a requirement for enjoying a summer movie.
