First, a little clarification - it could be argued that this quote simply regards a higher number of subscribers present than previous seasons, which is a no-brainer and not necessarily Discovery-specific. The larger evidence that Bakish isn't (at least entirely) twisting terms here is in what follows.

Here is the exact quote:

We just launched season four… and it’s off to the fastest start in terms of subscribers than all of the Discovery series seasons to date. So we’re feeling good about that.

Here's the more overtly bright bit; for reference, this all pertains to a TrekMovie article concerning the Viacom CBS' comments today at UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference:

Bakish revealed that Paramount+ had its best week ever and best month ever in November.

This could, and in all likelihood does, come down to a variety of factors. But it is reasonably safe to assume Discovery's return numbers among them.

The article (linked above) is worth a read. I've drawn attention to all of this in case anyone is beginning to worry that a fifth season has yet to be announced; I hazard a strong guess that either the company is irregularly waiting until later to formally greenlight it or (less likely but not impossible) Discovery is ending this season but splitting up into multiple spinoffs.

This is great to read! I’m glad the season seems to be off to such a great start.

‪‪I had come across some global stats last night that felt similar, indicating that this season of Discovery is doing well, that ‪‪I mentioned in the General Disco thread.

This week’s global iTunes TV show charts place Discovery Season 4 at number 3, right behind Yellowstone, with Succession in the top spot.

It's been awhile, but I'm pretty sure us mere mortals can only do that before anyone likes or comments in the thread.

Also the article is clearly wrong. Don't they watch that guy on Youtube? He said Discovery is a failure because of the Ferengi makeup.
