Blu-Ray season 2 release?

As far as I'm aware there has been no news or announcement about a physical release of Lower Decks' second season (yet). Someone remember when season one's release was announced relative to the end of it being streamed? Maybe this would give some indication when season two might happen. @Tuskin38 is usually pretty on top of these kind of things. :)

So, season 1 finished airing October 2020; the Blu-ray was announced March 2021 with release in May. Since season 2 finished at around the same time in 2021, if we assume a similar timeframe (to account for things like extras being prepared) I'd say we're still some way away from an announcement, and further from a release.

Thanks so much for doing the math on this. I too think we'll hear about it in the next couple of months. :)

I wish soon. I know people without a way to watch it that are chomping at the bit to get the hard copies.

Even with ways to watch it, I still really, really want a physical copy! ;)
Me too. Originally, I planned to wait until the series was concluded and full series box released. But then last November I decided to buy all the individual seasons, as I saw the previous seasons quickly running out of print, and without a guarantee of a full series box, I decided to go for it. Especially for Lower Decks, as I think the Blu-Ray print around here will be relatively small.

Mike did post on twitter a few weeks back he was recording Audio commentary for the home release.

Awesome! I just knew you would have some news on this for us. :)

How cool that they are doing audio commentaries (or at the very least, one) for the season two release! That's absolutely something that's missing on the first season blu-ray. Some of the most interesting and funniest audio commentaries I ever listened to were the ones with David Mirkin for the “Golden Era” of Simpsons seasons on DVD. If they manage to make the Lower Decks commentaries as entertaining as those, that would be legendary.

What with DVD and blu ray releases being something studios have been doing for a few years, you'd think they would have all the extra material ready to go. Shouldn't take 6 months....unless it's more about milking the subscription dollar.

Still, it could be worse...it could be Disney.

I think you hit it on the head here. I'm sure they have all kinds of stats on how to milk every last dollar before they release a hard copy that doesn't require a subscription.

Any word on this yet……? (Starting to have slight sense of worrying here….. )

Don't worry, there'll be a Blu-Ray/DVD release. It just might be taking longer because maybe Paramount thought there was more subscription dollars to squeeze out first. Or maybe the team is just busy and it's taking longer to prepare.

I think all the new series will see hard copy releases in fact. I think Paramount knows Star Trek fans will buy the hard copy releases, even if they subscribe to streaming. Ultimately having a Blu-Ray or DVD is the one guarantee that you will always have it and I think Trekkies by and large like that. And at least in my case, there's still no comparison to having the Blu-Ray on my shelf.

I hope this comes out soon. A steelbook would be nice, to go with the one from season 1 that's sitting on my shelf all by its lonesome.

Yeah, at this point, it's getting a bit concerning. Season 1's physical media release in May was announced last March. Here we are April and nothing's been announced yet. Though, I don't know, maybe they're planning an announcement with the big hooplah for First Contact Day on April 5?

Just come here to find out as well as we are coming up to May when this was released last year. The only thing I can think of there seems to be a 1 year exclusive for Picard and Lower Decks on Amazon prior to a home video release here in the UK. So I wonder if they are just holding back to sync a world wide release as impatient Brits like me just import a copy months in advance.

Doesn't region encoding make that at all problematic?
The North American blu-ray sets of Lower Decks S1 and Picard S1 are all-region/region-free. The Disco covers don't say anything about region coding, but I can't find anything online confirming if that means they are also all-region. Season 3 has been confirmed to play in both Region A and B players. Anyway, more commercial disc releases are going the no/all-region route. Thankfully, the 4K/UHD disc format does not have region coding at all.

For discs that do have region coding, all-region players are available at reasonable prices.
