Blu-Ray Box Set

The first seven series of the new series (and the specials, too), are being collected in a Blu-Ray Box Set for North America, complete with Sonic Screwdriver remote control.

Though the article says the Eccleston and Tennant seasons are being remastered for HD, I harbor doubts that it's technically possible to upgrade those seasons to HD. For one thing, the CGI effects would need to be rerendered at HD, and The Mill's closure would have an effect there. (Assuming the files still exist and are still usable.)

It's an interesting package.

I'm seriously amused by the outrage from UK fans at the link because no similar set (or Blu-Ray release of the Eccleston and Tennant years) has been announced across the Pond.

Series 1-4 were shot on video so a HD release would be impossible. Any HD release would most likely be an upscale job.

Exactly how stupid are people who think there won't be one? (Blogtor has confirmed it is coming.)

And while they'll just be upscales, they'll still look better than the original versions. I actually watched some S1 episodes recently and it was quite painful.

I just hope they stick on the TARDISodes and the other bits and pieces that should have turned up on past sets but didn't.

It's also massively expensive.

Even with just the 10% off Amazon have it at (and you can be sure there'll be bigger discounts before it gets released) that's less than $50 a series. Series 7 by itself will cost $80.

Which has me worried that these will actually be extra-less discs, after all.

I'm not rushing to replace my DVDs of 1-4.

And as I have the blurays of the specials onwards I'll not buying this.

Admittedly we do pay for the bloody show so any new release of it should be here first, but when all's said and done its 200 quid for a product that is already available to buy.

Hell you can buy the individual releases of Series 1-6 for slightly over £100 on Amazon.

I know this is meant to cash in on holiday sales, but if they had of waited until the new year they could have included the 50th and the Christmas special and released the set as the complete Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith collection.

Yea, I thought, "Well why don't they wait and get the last 2 episodes in too", and then it hit me, Duh, Anniversary Gift Revenue

-Anniversary special out a week after it airs with Prom's attached

-Christmas special blu-ray out a week after it airs

5 months later

"The Eleventh Doctor specials" set containing both.

Do the blue ray disc have the same features as the regular dvd's? (nothing new or different on blue-ray)

There are some new features on the Blu-Rays that weren't on the 2-disc special collector's edition DVDs from several years ago. I think they're also available on DVD, though, just not those old 2-disc sets (or the older, 1-disc sets).
