Blu-Ray 2.0 - Do I care?

I was kind of looking around at Blu-ray players this weekend, and I went home and did a little reading online. I have somewhat familiarized myself with 1.1 and 2.0, but I don't know if I really care if I have a 2.0 player or not. I only want to watch movies once in a while.

I'm thinking I might just be better off getting a PS3. Considering the price of the console vs. any 2.0 Blu-ray player I saw, it just seems like I am getting the whole package with the PS3, which won't go out of date tomorrow.

The PS3 is one of the best blu-ray players out there. That said, if you only care about the movie and you're only going to be watching them "once in a while", unless you're going to be doing more gaming to make up the balance then the PS3 might not be your best choice, either. You might be able to find another blu-ray player, or a used one, for less money.

I think 1.1 is more important to me than 2.0 bc I dont really care about the online addtions.

Im sure you probably know this, but the ps3 is 2.0 anyways.

I could give a damn what version it is. All I'm interested in is the feature film. Extras can go take a flying leap.

^ Even assuming I needed the extra features that the PS3's Blu-Ray functionality would provide (and I'm not ruling that out, for the future), would it still make financial sense to get one, given that I have absolutely no interest in playing PS3 games?

I mean, PS3's cost $399, and yet I can find a Sony Blu-Ray player for $299.

I guess it depends if you want to rent/watch movies online. Also, the PS3 can serve as a media center and stream files from your PCs in your home network.

So far, all the BD 2.0 extras have been pretty useless IMO.

OTOH, PS3 is the best BD player at the moment (at least if you take price into account) so I'd suggest you get that in which case you also won't have to worry about BD 2.0.

^Question for you on that - if you buy something (a movie, a TV show or some music) from the iTunes Store directly from your Apple TV does it get synced back to your PC/Mac when you next do a sync ?

Can the AppleTV do divx/xvid now, or is it still only Apple formats?
Anyway, wasn't the AppleTV 200 dollars? Not like it was any cheaper, feature for feature, than a PS3 is now.

Oh yes, I think it was using a Mac to telnet into it to install new codecs or some such.
Point being, you don't really need to do that on a PS3 now and you can just burn the media onto a disc or put it on a card and just slip it into the PS3 if you don't have a wireless home network.
