Bloopers????

Snicker! I first saw that clip by way of OutPost Gallifrey some time ago. I love your dog's "yeah, whatever" attitude. It's a good thing it didn't phase him, otherwise his jaws would probably crush your replica.

Oops! :wtf: Looks like I've derailed this thread. And now back to our regularly scheduled mayhem.

Sincerely,

Bill

The challenge is in finding a copy that you can actually watch. Some that I have seen were copied from images so dark and damaged that it was nigh impossible to see what was going on. Seems to me someone had said they were literally rescued from the cutting room floor and had been badly damaged. One that leaps to mind is a shot of Spock in the captain's chair on the bridge ... and in walks his son Adam I think, in shirt and ears!

Good point. The copy I saw at the convention was just about that bad. the only reason I knew the pay-off was because I'd seen a decent "still" a few years earlier.

Sincerely,

Bill

^ Yes indeed. Those aren't even the compete reels. I have a really good VHS copy of the complete TOS/TNG blooper reels, I need to get out and transfer to DVD so I can post them. It's quite a bit clearer. Have to go to work in bit, but I am going to put that on my project list.

Just be careful..... bloopers might be in a sort of grey area as to copyright matters. Some shows don't mind but others sure do.

If one wants to talk production errors and snafus, I can name several that made it onto the final televised cuts of episodes: The boom mike's shadow above Spock's science station in "The Ultimate Computer," above Chekov's and Kloog's heads on the fake rockface in "The Gamesters of Triskelion" and on a big tree stump just as the Caretaker humanoid appears in "Shore Leave." :D

Thanks - you're not gonna believe this, but I've never seen the famous blooper reel before. :D

Anybody notice Nimoy's grin makes him look a little like Tom Baker? Give him a Harpo wig, a fedora and a 20 foot long scarf and he could be Tom's stand-in!

Actually I think that DeForest Kelley looks more like Tom Baker...all he needs is a big ole schnozzola (aka NOSE!)

I know this is more of a production error or snafu rather than a blooper, but in "The Ultimate Computer," you can clearly see the shadow of an overhead boom mike over Spock's science station during one of the times Dr. Daystrom is on the bridge. It's painfully obvious and lingers for several seconds over either Nimoy or the Daystrom actor.

This whole 'suspension of disbelief' garbage is one the many reasons TOS will outlive TNG, Buffy, or any number of wannabes. Roddenberry always understood that Trek fans were so knowledgeable about so much of the behind the scenes stuff ( I mean, there were fan clubs for people like the Head/Key Grip on TOS! ), that he knew most of them were/are cognizant of the fact that its just a G-d TV show!, and doing stuff like letting the bloopers seep out there among the fans does nothing but HELP your reputation! People like Stewart, Spiner and Whedon are so Serious...so full of themselves in a way, They NEVER understand what truly makes a show stick around long after it has stopped making new episodes. Nimoy came real close, but seemed to lose it by the time of TWOK.

In a way it was good for Shatner to have his 'low' period -if it didnt quite stifle the ego, it taught him at least to have FUN with the Trek thing.

I read that TNG bloopers were suppressed because Stewart and Spiner hated them.

The TNG bloopers were suppressed because, over several decades, the now-famous TOS bloopers (made to entertain the cast and crew at the annual Christmas and/or wrap parties) that were once screened only at large, selected Star Trek conventions of the early 70s, were illegally bootlegged and distributed as if they were public domain. (Someone at the convention, entrusted by Roddeberry to mind the reels, did the urgent copying deed, we assume.)

As those "TV Censored Bloopers" shows gained in popularity, many actors began to be paid quite well for the airing of their hilarious workday blunders, but the Star Trek actors - some of them almost broke during their lean and hungry years, and being told they were typecast - received no royalties whatsoever for the blooper footage that was out there. And there was no way to compensate them for loss of royalty, especially since their series contracts didn't compensate them for the syndication of TOS itself after the third repeat. (Kelley and the "gang of four" received lump sums during ST V to compensate them for the regular series, but nothing for the bloopers since they were now public domain by default.)

It was the Screen Actors Guild who tightened the rules on bloopers, but yes, the TNG cast (and their agents) were very uncomfortable with TNG bloopers going the way of the TOS blooper reels.

The bloopers included on the ENT DVD sets were probably covered by the actors' original contracts, with royalties going to all participants.
