Blood Oath comes on tonight. Opinions of this episode

I have only seen in 1x, and it was pretty good. Like the Albino dude, in his fortress.

Not one of my favourites. Probably would have more impact if I had seen the TOS episodes with these Klingon characters so didn't find them interesting at all. Kor never grew on me as a character latter either.

I don't like the episode. They don't look even anything like they looked in TOS just due to the fugly 'modern forehead-on-steroids makeup', so they don't even feel like the same characters to me.

Woulda been much better IMO to bring back the Koloth actor as Trelane and make a DS9 episode about that. In fact just knowing he was in Blood Oath ticks me off because it makes it clear he was available to hire to do Trelane again, yet they never made good on that glorious opportunity. :(

IIRC Doesn't make sense how they said they were gonna eat the Albino's heart, then in a season 7 episode they say Jadzia never ate anyone's heart.

Definitely makes no sense how they backstab the Albino given that they are always ranting & raving about 'honor'. Backstabbing is one of the most dishonorable behaviours possible to commit.

I tried to watch it, never having seen it before, but all I could find was UFC stuff. Did I miss it, or was it not aired at all?

A great, self-contained adventure written by the best writer for DS9 during its first two seasons: Peter Allen Fields. Not only was it a treat for fans of TOS but as a DS9 story it was fantastic thanks in many ways to he fine direction of Winrich Kolbe and the use of some great sets. Great acting from Terry, John Colicos and Michael Ansara. Most importantly to me it gave us Niners probably the best Jadzia-centered story ever. Another gem from the fantastic second season; a quality stand-alone treat that TPTB had trouble duplicating in the last two years of the show.

I really enjoyed this ep. Of course they had to update the makeup for the original trio of Klingons, so we wouldn't have to explain why they looked one way in the 23rd century then lumpy and bumpy in the 24th.

I really got a kick out of seeing Kor, even though transforming him into a drunken sot was a bit peculiar. Kang was always my favorite, and I was glad they didn't make Koloth the fop he played in The Trouble With Tribbles.

There is one part that cracks me up -- when Koloth comes to spring Kor out of Odo's jail, and he gets mad that Kor has gotten drunk and locked up. He yells at him, "You sully our great purpose!" Then he shouts to Odo, "KEEP HIM!"

I also enjoyed how Jadzia verbally jousted with all of them, esp. Kang. The Albino was quite a jerk, and I was glad to see him meet the fate he so richly deserved. One of the reasons I like the Klingons is they certainly relish an eye for an eye, like how Worf killed Duras for killing his mate, K'Ehylar.

I liked this episode also. It raises the question again from season one's 'Dax' as to whether or not a new host is responsible for any obligations of previous hosts.

I like the episode.
This is fanwank done right imo.
Bringing all the Kirk counterparts from TOS together alone was brilliant.

The first part dragged on a bit too long and when I watched it I almost thought they wouldn't leave for the Albino at all in the end. The rest was a well done action episode.
A fitting end for Koloth and Kang and a good beginning of the Kor "mini-arc" which was very enjoyable.

Kang rocks in this episode. I love that bit where they are all about to charge into battle against the Albino and Kang yells out "Look upon your executioners, killer of CHILDREN!"

And if anyone's interested, the Albino's life story is told in the excellent novel Forged in Fire. :techman:

"Blood Oath" was the first in a long-line of "consistantly good" DS9 episodes for the rest of its run. After this, DS9 never had to look back.

I feel the same - Blood Oath was one of the 'turning point' episodes where DS9 shed some of its more childish and irritating aspects on the way to becoming the brilliant show it would become.

Peeps:

I was glad they didn't make Koloth the fop he played in The Trouble With Tribbles.

My only criticism of this ep. is that they ignored Koloth's portrayal in TOS and instead went with a stereotypical Klingon personality for him.

I much preferred his decidedly atypical Klingon behavior in 'Tribbles'.

I liked this episode. I liked when Koloth accused Odo of insulting a Da Har master and Odo kind of stood at attention and pretty much apologized.

I did not like the way Kira and Sisko treated Judzia about the Blood Oath.
Especially Kira who acted like she never did anything like that before. :klingon:

IIRC Doesn't make sense how they said they were gonna eat the Albino's heart, then in a season 7 episode they say Jadzia never ate anyone's heart.
Well, it was clear to me that while Jadzia was willing to talk the talk, she couldn't quite bring herself to walk the walk. So i don't see this as an inconsistency.

Definitely makes no sense how they backstab the Albino given that they are always ranting & raving about 'honor'. Backstabbing is one of the most dishonorable behaviours possible to commit.

"There is nothing more honorable than victory." - Worf, son of Mogh.

Most importantly to me it gave us Niners probably the best Jadzia-centered story ever.
The writers always seemed to have trouble knowing what to do with Jadzia, hence Terry Farrell's departure. They tended to fall back on exploring her past lives, especially Curzon's, rather than exploring Jadzia herself. At least this episode went some way towards exploring Jadzia's own reactions to the events of those former lives.

Especially Kira who acted like she never did anything like that before. :klingon:
Not a bit of it. Kira acted like "I've been here hundreds of times before, so listen to me because I know what I'm talking about."
