Underrated, and underused - often by writers who give her underconsidered dialogue. "Evolution", "Face of the Enemy", "Encounter at Farpoint" where her abilities are pivotal to the story are three examples where she gets something more compelling to do.

Just rewatching "The Offspring"... here's a quote.

PICARD: "Well, if he must, but I fail to understand how a five foot android with heuristic learning systems and the strength of a ten men can be called a child."
TROI: "You've never been a parent."

Of course, Troi was one for... what, about two days?

Troi's greatest talent was banging not just 1, but 2 Rikers. That deserves a medal.

She didn't ask to be impregnated dude. Thats' a script that was orginally meant for what would have been star trek phase 2 in the 70s.

I know. And I also know that the lifeform that impregnated her had no ill intent. It was an explorer, and not having a body itself, it couldn't really understand the concept of body autonomy.

    "I sense something"

    *shrugs* *shakes head*

"I don't know what it is"

made up most of Trois bridge dialogue

In a meeting, not everybody is on the same page. Stating what might be obvious won't always be "in the moment", which is why participation from all involved helps. Even if it's redundant or remedial, there's always that one chance where it isn't. It happens, it just is. We're human. Even the fastest computer server farm (neural network, et al) would still need to process all available information, as available in its own databanks. Guess who designed those? Yup, so those databanks aren't exhaustive in scope either. Only to the specific purpose of the systems. Plus, sci-fi has a point, if it were sentient it'd hit the proverbial button and fry this planet so that orbiting ships of Martians could promptly fry up their smores. Since it's radioactive, even the Dominators from the eponymously titled Doctor Who story would benefit. Now there's 3.75 episodes' worth of boredom in a 5-episode story, but it's not without its moments, and that doesn't include the scene where Cully follows Jamie up the ladder. Well, for most anyway...

Only when the writers didn't know what to do. She's best used in "Encounter at Farpoint" as only she, with her abilities, could figure out the problem - that set an interesting standard, one that they almost never matched.

Otherwise she's telling Picard how other species might describe a cup full of brown liquid (which is actually a terrific scene in getting someone to understand the enormous issue involving language translation and detail accuracy therein, so I'm keeping snark minimal -- but my like of something isn't really equated to level of snark to begin with, but I digress), or taking a crash course in improv ("Face of the Enemy", which stretches some credibility, but Marina Sirtis's performance rises well above the script's nitpicks and makes the story one of the best episodes she got to do... )

The website isn't there anymore. When looked in the Wayback machine, I found a travel website, which I found nostalgic for its 00s style.

I see he had some random thought articles. By 2022, when this was posted, the main page was gone. It directed users to get an app. The articles were probably left on the server after he transition.

My favorite Troi moments were the ones where she wasn't on the bridge at the moment when her empathic abilities would have immediately ended the episode. Gee, how convenient :guffaw:

It's like how in the episode, Where Silence Has Lease, Wesley is conveniently not on the bridge so Nagillum "red shirts" the poor hapless ensign who just happens to be on duty. In any other episode, Wes would have been there at his station.

To be honest, that's frequently the case, when amazing technology discovered or applied in an earlier episode would have instantly solved this episode's problem, but apparently has been completely forgotten about.

It's also the reason why Troi is empathic, not telepathic. Would have spoiled way too many episodes too quickly.

(I mean, 'captain I sense he's hiding something, be cautious' makes for easier writing of 40 minute episodes than 'Captain, he's secretly thinking of meeting with the Romulans on the third moon of Betazax 6 exactly 72 hours from now, to sell them those alien technology blueprints he just denied he had in his possession'.). And then to think there's at least an entire planet full of them ...

That's the nature of episodic television. What happens in one episode is generally forgotten moving forward. Not always the case, but very frequently true.
