Blade Runner 2

Did the revised Future Noir from a few years back get published in North America? I thought it was a UK thing.

Truly, I wasn't even aware there was a 2007 edition. :)

I know that Sammon hoped to publish an uncut version of Future Noir; his original manuscript had 300 pages chopped from it.

Looking forward to this new edition, anyway. No doubt there will be some other Blade Runner-related books popping up in the next few months.

No doubt. I'm sure we'll have a new tie-in edition of DADOES, new editions of the Jeter books (and maybe the third book will finally be available in the US; I imported a copy of Eye and Talon), almost certainly an art book. If not a novelization, then maybe the screenplay?

Honestly, I doubt it would've been as good if it had been. Scott's filmography has been hit-and-miss -- arguably more miss than hit. Apparently the quality of his films depends a lot on whether he has a good script to start with -- although there was that notorious case of his Robin Hood movie where he was given a script everyone said was fantastic and innovative (basically heroic Sheriff of Nottingham hunting the terrorist Robin Hood) and tossed it out in favor of a dull, generic version of the legend.
Yeah, I was confused and disappointed when they changed that one.

I don't see why some other director can't just go back to the original Nottingham script and film it as a separate movie. If remakes can exist, then there's no reason you couldn't make two different movies "based on" the same original script, especially given that one of them tossed out almost everything about it.

I rewatched recently and I think the narration version definitely makes the movie more intimate and expands nicely on some points - like why the replicants have photos, etc.

Though there are a few awkward lines here & there.

I have no idea which version of Future Noir I have- until this thread I thought there was only one.

I like both versions of Blade Runner, with and without narration. That film is so visual I can watch it with the sound turned off and it still works.

I once watched it in Italian. Just for the lolz. Leon is more...intense.

Wow, three hours.

That's actually pretty surprising considering Denis Villeneuve's work is typically on the shorter side (except Prisoners which was about two and a half hours). I'm not concerned about the reports of it being slow because that's his typical style and I love all of his films that I've seen (everything since Enemy). I'm sure the running time will be cut down considerably, but I wonder if we'll ever see that version for ourselves.

I'm amused by Ford's comment about enjoying the chance to return a character after 30 years...as if he's never done that before.

I've gained the same reassurances as I did with the first featurette for The Force Awkaens, where it clearly demonstrated how meticulous the production was and how they're were using practical effects as much as possible. I think my cautious optimism has gradually increased to excitement. Still cautious about the story, but I trust Denis Villeneuve when he says "This is something special."

I'm wondering if there was some kind of disaster between the movies, we seem to be seeing a lot of destroyed buildings.

It always seemed to me the world depicted in the original was just a few minutes short of an environmental disaster of some kind, so I guess it makes sense.

Cool trailer. I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised that so much of the movie appears to revolve around Deckard.

I think he's the Plot Macguffin. Various factions are looking for Deckard, from Gosling and the LAPD to Jared Leto's faction, and eventually their roads will converge in the final act when Deckard is found.

Or it could just be that the trailers are playing up his involvement through selective editing. Naturally the return of the original star is something the trailer makers would want to emphasize regardless of how big a part of the actual film he is. I seem to recall the Suicide Squad trailers featuring the Joker (and Batman) rather more heavily than the film did.
