Blade Prequel TRILOGY On the Way?? With no Blade??

Supposedly he was very difficult to work with

True, and it reached its zenith on the set of Blade: Trinity, when he refused to appear in any shot that didn't actually focus on him / his face. Much of Blade's appearances in the film are actually Snipes' stunt double.

I think it's funny that they not only have this unlikely project in mind but that it's a trilogy no less.

Heck, nowadays it seems impossible for anything to get greenlit unless there's some plan for sequels.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I liked Blade and its take on vampires overall. Blade II was also excellent. I'm interested in seeing the further development of this franchise.

On the other hand, Blade Trinity was crap and may have sucked the remaining life out of this franchise. Plus, after Underworld: Rise of the Lycans & Wolverine failed to intrigue, I'm dubious as to Hollywood's ability to make a good prequel.

How about this Marvel team up: Hannibal King meets Deadpool!;)

IIRC, much of that had to do with Snipes not getting along with David Goyer. He thought that Goyer was a crap director and was pissed off that Goyer seemed to be putting too much focus onto Hannibal King.

Personally, I think Goyer made a huge mistake by killing of Whistler... again! His original death in the 1st movie was poignant. His resurrection in Blade II was contrived but worth it since Kris Kristoferson is the best thing about this franchise. Sadly, Kristoferson was phoning it in for his scant few scenes in Blade Trinity before he was pointlessly killed off.

Maybe instead of a Deacon Frost prequel, they can do a Whistler prequel. They can still have Deacon Frost be the villain.

The studio's got me currently working on two sequels to Glory to make it a trilogy. And I have to bring back the characters played by Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman. Right now they'll be brought back either by voodoo or with alien technology.

Goyer is a crap director. Either that or he just plain sucks when he has total control.

While I disagree that Whistler was the best part of Blade, this is definitely the best idea for a Blade prequel. Why the hell do I want to see a prequel about a villain that didn't last past part one? Deacon Frost is not exactly Darth Vader.

What? No Glory prequels? :guffaw:

I also disagree that Whistler was the best thing about Blade, though he was one of the best things. I think a Whistler prequel, if done right, would be pretty kickass.

^ The string of straight-to-DVD cheap action flicks were because of his downward slope. Supposedly he was very difficult to work with, and when he hit it big he seemed to do stupid action flicks left and right that canceled out everything he gained with his acclaimed comedies and dramas.

Plus he built an expensive home that cost a lot of money (shown off in an issue of Ebony) which required him to do these DTV flicksin order to keep it, IIRC.

I don't know what Snipes reputation was like overall, but I think how Blade Trinity, and even Blade the Series, turned out might have vindicated whatever issues he had with Goyer.

Blade was Snipes' franchise and to some extent by the time of Trinity, unfortunately, his bread and butter. Careerwise he had a lot more invested into the film than Goyer did. Goyer has went on since to have a pretty decent career in Hollywood.

But for Trinity, Goyer wasn't a good director, and I think he was dividing his time between writing and directing Trinity and writing Batman Begins, it was too much for him. I think he had lost what made the Blade vamps cool and cutting edge, and he tried to substitute camp instead. Also, Trinity felt tired and I think that was more from a lack of creativity on Goyer's part than an exhausted franchise. Blade potentially had a few more movies to go as a franchise IMO. Goyer's original apocalyptic future idea would've been so awesome to see. Despite Trinity's flaws and misdirection, the idea of Blade being exposed and hunted by the FBI, even the idea of bringing Dracula in, weren't bad, just poorly handled.

Also, his attempt to try to use Trinity more as a launch pad for a Nightstalkers franchise instead of producing the best Blade film he could, was a mistake. I think Goyer's a very talented dude, but I think what made the Blade films work was the collaboration between him and Wesley. Without Wesley, you got the Blade from Blade the series, a character without the dynamism that Snipes provided to make up for a lot of deep characterization.
