Gotta say that I'm not sure about the 'R' rating and the fourth-wall-breaking, because I don't typically see Rated-R films and don't really like it when characters talk directly to the audience instead of each other.
Unfairly? After how The Rise of Skywalker got unfairly destroyed when "critics" actually got around to publishing full reviews of that movie, I'm not going to give 'initial reactions' any credence whatsoever.
Jackie Gleason?
As Robbie explained it to Nerdist:
In other words, we've already seen Catwoman and Poison Ivy in the movies, but there's been no film vehicle for characters like Huntress, Black Canary, or Renee Montoya, so Robbie wanted to give them one. Which is nice, because she was thinking less about her own character (who's more logically connected to the Sirens) and more about how she could use her popularity and the clout it gave her to help lift up other DC heroines. That's really cool.
Yes. Unfairly.Unfairly?
Most were expertly made though. Rise Of Skywalker is flawed even on a technical level, something no other Star Wars movie ever had a problem with.Yes. Unfairly.
(The variation in quality among Star Wars movies is not nearly as great as some fans appear to believe. Simplistic popcorn entertainment aptly describes each installment.)

Critics, a lot of viewers, and also me.According to whom?
Critics, a lot of viewers, and also me.
As opposed to you?IOW, people who don't know anything.
Speaking of, there are reports that Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley QuinnSuperman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman were mentioned repeatedly. Just because they don't recap the events of Man of Steel doesn't mean that's been thrown out completely.
Gunn's The Suicide Squad features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. Difficult as it may be to form an independent thought in the absence of an Official Pronouncement, I'm prepared to conclude it's a sequel to Ayer's Suicide Squad and part of the DCEU continuity. The jury is still out on whether or not The Suicide Squad is a "DCEU" film because there have been conflicting reports, but BoPatFEoOHQ was already explicitly confirmed to be a DCEU film even without using footage from Ayer's Suicide Squad.

I know that; however, there's still been conflicting reports as to whether or not it's actually part of the DCEU continuity (the reprisal of characters and actors doesn't necessarily mean anything).
As you can see from his signature, for this guy if the creators say something is in continuity even when it violates every single thing in its predecessors, he'll say that it's "factually" in continuity. If a movie keeps all the actors, and continues directly from the events of the last, but the creators haven't said anything about the continuity, he will say it's not in continuity.Gunn's The Suicide Squad features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.
