Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)

A new 7:31 long behind the scenes featurette with interviews with a bunch of members of the cast and crew and some new footage came out yesterday.

This movie just doesn’t interest me. She’s not even a BoP.
I’ll just wait for the Great One.

Great One?
I'm still a little confused by why they decided to make Harley one of the Birds of Prey instead of going with the Gotham City Sirens, but so far I am loving everything I'm seeing from this, so I'm willing to overlook that. This looks like it's going to be exactly the kind of thing I love.

Ah, so you're not seeing any DC movies until Black Adam comes out?
I edited my post after your post.

I’ll see the Wonder Woman one. I forgot about that one. Still not a fan of having it set in the 80’s. Rather it was post JL.

Jackie Gleason?

As Robbie explained it to Nerdist:
“Whilst I was researching the character I started to read Birds of Prey and first I fell in love with Huntress, and I started looking into all of that. I was like, ‘Wow, there’s so many cool female DC characters and no one knows anything about any of them!’ So what if we had a platform for fans to get to know and fall in love with some of these other amazing women? Focusing on the Gotham City Sirens, there were only three of us and we were all well known, whereas with Birds of Prey you can pick any grouping for that, and I thought that might be the perfect platform to introduce some female characters who might really have some legs in the DC Universe.”

In other words, we've already seen Catwoman and Poison Ivy in the movies, but there's been no film vehicle for characters like Huntress, Black Canary, or Renee Montoya, so Robbie wanted to give them one. Which is nice, because she was thinking less about her own character (who's more logically connected to the Sirens) and more about how she could use her popularity and the clout it gave her to help lift up other DC heroines. That's really cool.

I read a piece that said Robbie wanted to use the Birds over Sirens because she wanted to give exposure to DC's lesser known female characters. (EDIT: oops, didn't realize it was also mentioned in this very thread...)

I hadn't read that story, that is a pretty cool idea. We have had plenty of exposure to the other Sirens, so I can see wanting to give some less well known characters some exposure.

That universe is dead an buried. They are going to stall as long as they can before they make a modern days WW movie.

Well, plenty of exposure to Catwoman, but only one feature film appearance for Poison Ivy, and one live-action TV series featuring her (Gotham). Still, that's more than the BoP have gotten.

You keep using this word "incorrect" but it seems that you don't know what it means.

I know exactly what the word means.

BoP and WW1984 have already been publicly and explicitly confirmed to be part of the shared franchise started with Man of Steel, so your assertion that said franchise is dead and buried is therefore incorrect.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence ;) Also, having writers say "oh yeahhh that universe thing, we're totally a part of it!" is not enough. We need some on-screen evidence.

Accurately stating that BoP and WW1984 are direct follow-ups to Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman is not an "extraordinary claim"

This is not a fact-based statement.

It's pretty clear just from the bits and pieces we've seen that these are the same characters we saw in Suicide Squad and the first Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. I'm not sure exactly how much Suicide Squad impacts BoP, but Wonder Woman 1984 does seem to be building pretty heavily off of what happened in the first Wonder Woman.
