Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)

Now that I've started to read the New 52 Harley series, I can definitely see a lot of that version of her in the movie version. Especially in the trailer for this.

R rating confirmed via filmratings.com, "for strong violence and language throughout, and some sexual and drug material."

Funko has revealed the Pop! line for Birds of Prey, and a couple things are in there that we hadn't seen yet. I don't remember hearing about it, but one of the Harleys has her stuffed beaver, so I would assume he must appear in the movie at some point. There is also another one that shows her in her Roller Derby uniform.

I have to confess I was going to just leave it as Harley's beaver, but I was afraid someone might be offended so I reworded it.

I don't know if there's really annoy to talk about him without it sounding at least kinda dirty.

We've got a new full trailer with tons of footage we haven't seen before, including Harley at the Roller Derby, Black Canary using her powers, and Sionis in a couple different black masks, including his traditional one.

This is really starting to look pretty great.

It seems more violent than I'd prefer, but it does look like fun. The humor works pretty well.

Is there a precedent for Harley having a hyena named Bruce? Traditionally she has a pair of hyenas, Bud and Lou.

Not that I know if. Maybe they were afraid younger audience members wouldn't get the reference with the names. As for having only one instead of two, maybe it was just a budget thing since he seems to be CGI?
Margot Robbie recently did an interview where she compared Birds of Prey (and the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) to Joker, and discussed her approach to playing Harley. She confirmed that The Joker will not be appearing at all, and said that BoP is going to be much less grounded than the movie Joker was. She also said that there is a line about Harley having voices in her head, so after that she looked into schizophrenia a bit, and after that she played Harley as if she was schizophrenic.

Yeah, I clearly remain outside the target audience of this thing. Frankly, every trailer and bit of info they release makes me want to see it even less than I already did. I think I hate pretty much every choice they seem to have made. Then again, I'm not a Harley Quinn fan, and I absolutely loathed Robbie's Harley in Suicide Squad. So that's not really surprising.

Dollars saved for me, I suppose. Still, I do hope that those of you excited for this get a good movie out of it. If nothing else, the variety is good for the genre.

Fun trailer. Getting a bit of a Deadpool vibe from it though, particularly at the start where Harley is narrating her attack on the cop.

Weird how that little car barely shifts at all when it gets slammed into.
Weird how that's my main comment regarding the trailer. ;)

So, Harley seems to have taken over our local mall. She was prominently displayed in the front windows of Hot Topic, Spencer's Gifts, and FYE.

It's almost as though she had a new movie coming out . . . :)
