A part of me hopes it will, another part fears it won't.Lets see if that observation holds true if they cast a woman as the Doctor.

The very fact that there was a BBC announcement about the character being gay makes me wonder if that is possible.I just hope they don't make a big deal out of it.. Just let it be how she is and then move on... It always bothers me that shows sometimes seem to go out of their way to portray the sexuality of characters just to say "LOOK! We're inclusive!!!"...
I don't want the Doctor to be a woman, although a spinoff with a strong female lead, like the Adventures of Romana or something would be fantastic.Lets see if that observation holds true if they cast a woman as the Doctor.

I do hope we see some kind of relationship-- it's sort of the easy way to make someone gay if you say they're gay, but never actually show it, while consistently reinforcing the heterosexuality of all your other companions (Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, and Clara all had significant storylines involving romance/sex). Like how it was implied Clara might be bisexual, but only in a quick joke.
Nope. And I would enjoy or dislike her on her own merits and the show as a whole. I'm still a full season behind tho.A female Doctor is more likely than a Romana spinoff.
Would you stop watching if the Doctor was a woman in this regeneration?
Or even 'worse' a black lesbian woman...(runs screaming into the night)Lets see if that observation holds true if they cast a woman as the Doctor.
The funny thing is a female Doctor has been bandied about so much and toyed with such as the Master that it will feel anticlimactic if they actually do go through with it.
BBC: "We are announcing that for the first time the Doctor will be played by a woman!
Fandom: *yawn*
I sense the announcement about Bill is about the same. Maybe I'm projecting but it seems that way (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
There's part of the fandom that's outraged by anything and everything. They should just be ignored. My bet is most of fandom would be happy and curious. But there will be another part who is outraged. Not realizing what a ridiculous thing to be outraged about.
To my surprise, this is what we got. And it wasn't played for titillation either (as I feared after "Space"/"Time").I do hope we see some kind of relationship-- it's sort of the easy way to make someone gay if you say they're gay, but never actually show it, while consistently reinforcing the heterosexuality of all your other companions (Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, and Clara all had significant storylines involving romance/sex).
