Bill & Dee

Have you any favourite Imzadi moments?

One of mine is actually from a rather uninspired episode entitled: "Man of the People," which seems to foreshadow Riker & Troi's marriage in NEMESIS with this exchange between them:

That scene was great, it showed the close friendship (but not romance) the two shared. Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis had nice chemistry, although not exactly electricity.

:)

I agree completely, T'Girl. Their friendship offscreen definitely shows onscreen and you can't manufacture something as genuine as that.

I always think of these two as "Bill & Dee," Sran, but the other reason for the title was that I'm confident that there have been plenty of "Imzadi" titles already ...

^I don't think so, either. They were quick to change it. My first thoughts were also of Shatner and Kelley.

Some favourite "Bill & Dee" moments -

From Man of the People, Riker telling Deanna he will be with her even when she's old and grey.

From the Outcast when Riker says that his being with Soren won't change their relationship, and Deanna says that it will.

From Violations when Deanna is unconcious and Riker is standing over her in sickbay asking her to come back because he's missing her.

From Nemesis when Deanna goes to sickbay after the attack by Shinzon and Riker goes with her.

When I saw this, I thought it was about Shatner and Kelley.

I expected a thread about Billy Dee Williams in TNG. The show could use a couple more dashing scoundrels -- and imagine Lando playing poker with the crew!

I liked the end of Conundrum when she gives him the cold shoulder after learning amnesiac Riker was juggling both her and Ro.

Ah, yes ... "amnesia." I can't believe TNG played that card! Always with the amnesia in Classic Television. And WillsBabe, those are some great moments, indeed! Another I'm especially fond of is when Troi was impregnated for the episode entitled: The Child.

I'm trying to remember why Data was there when Troi was about to perform the miracle of childbirth, but I get the impression he just happened by. In any case, Data ended up standing in as "The Nervous Father" trope, for comedic effect. Worf was there, in case the newborn was going to come out fighting ... literally.

And where's her Imzadi? Not where you'd expect. Does he sidle-up to where Data is and take over? No! Does he look panic-stricken? No! Troi said she wanted the kid and he'd certainly been briefed on the situation, without her coming to him about it, but I've always trusted that she did. Riker's just hanging in the back, off to the side, she doesn't even know he's there, as Ian's crowning ...

It's sort of symbolic, in a way, that Riker's support of her, especially in a life-changing situation like this one, is just as much behind-the-scenes as it is with outward shows of it. I don't know ... it just made it seem more "real" somehow, that his overall attitude in that wordless moment reflected how she would've expected him to feel for her - without her seeing it. That was really cool, how that was handled.

For me it was the moment in Nemesis where Riker was trying to comfort Deanna when they realized that Date is dead. Despite of not being someone prone to emotionality I could see that he was sad, too.

To me, NEMESIS seemed to be kind of unfair to them, because of how their wedding became all about Picard & Data, instead. The newly married couple were then reduced to making cutesy faces at eachother. That will always bother me, because there was no excuse for it, story-wise. Nor did it carry with it any Mass-Appeal. It was just robbing Peter to pay Paul. And then, the rest of their marriage is spent with Troi fending off a rapist! It's like ... is this some kind of payback at Frakes for INS not meeting expectations? But, so out of that world, yes, there are some great moments to be found in this movie for Imzadi. He's always where he should be, all of the time, in relation to his wife and all the bad stuff that's happening to and around them.

^ You have reminded me of another moment. In Nemesis when the crew arrive at Shinzon's place and he homes in on Deanna, and Riker moves to stand behind her.

Oh, yeah. Riker pipes up, right away, with "... you seem to know alot about our personnel" or words to that effect. When, what he should've asked was, "Shinzon ... do you have a problem, son?"

:rommie: >>SNORT!!!<<

It was enough to portray him as a naughty person when he rejects Donatra so soundly, when she flirted with him. Having him killing time as a mind-rapist was past the point of ... they'd made the point. But yes, Riker's always first on the scene when Deanna needs any kind of support in this movie and things are subtle, but ... it's such a shame John Logan was let to play with these characters. I think the Imzadi couple would've been so much better in more capable hands ...

Favorite Riker/Troi moments:

Deanna: "This is far less confusing than the way you usually communicate."

Don't remember which episode that was since that scene wasn't related to the main story.

Which traditionally would mean his father's name was named William December Williams.

Tradition only goes as far as the person writing the baby's name down after the birth. I know my grandfather had a junior in his name, but his name wasn't actual the same as his father as the nurse wrote it down wrong by writing the father's initials rather than the full name. The Army made it difficult for my grandmother to write him during World War II was she would have to write "initials only" after his name or else they'd send it back.

Imagine if DeForest Kelly had a son and the nurse wrote down what they called DeForest as the kid's name plus junior. He would be D Kelly, jr.

"Thine Own Self"

And he asks her if she's there for general Riker-bashing ...
