Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

Just trying to balance out the extreme optimism with some negativity. You are getting the same info I do, and already you are putting it on a pedastal.

Why bother? If the movie turns out to be as bad as you're expecting there'll be plenty of negativity to go around afterwards. Instead, your pre-determined vitriol just comes across as being unnecessarily vindictive.

What is wrong with not wanting remakes in any form?

It's narrow-minded. Not all remakes are worthless.

That's avoiding the fact that it's not a remake per se. Which episode specifically are they remaking?

^^^
What? So no new Shakespeare plays or films, no new Batman movies, no remakes of Beau Geste?

I'm not talking about filmed versions of books or plays or comic book. I'm talking about remakes of TV shows or movies.
That is all.

The announcement for Star Trek XI didn't go down well in all quarters.....

Mmmm...

"The Thing", a remake is generally fondly recalled by many around here.

"The Ten Commandments" is without a doubt a classic and was remade by its original director. Ditto for "The Man who knew too much" fits this as well.

Remakes

Why are remakes inherently bad again? Ironically it takes a limited sense of the artistic nature to make such a pronouncement that they are.

The Wizard of Oz was a remake.

OZ seems to be very popular among artists other then L. Frank Baum, its like it elicits some creative spark in people. Who'd of thunk? ;)

Even as we speak an offshoot of said work is being stalled on Broadway do to another strike and of course Scifi Channel has gone there as well.

Fatal Attraction was a remake, as was 12 Monkeys, THX 1138, Lord of the Rings, The Producers, and I'm pretty sure A Christmas Carol has had several remakes.

Sharr Khan has put forward the perfect candidate for why remakes sometimes work. John Carpenter's The Thing is an absolute masterpiece in its examination of paranoia.

I think we can safely say that remakes can be as good if not better than the originals but also carry the added danger of not living up to what people expect given what they've already seen. I myself am cautiously optimistic about the new movie. I think bringing in some new blood and getting some new writers might help stir a little life into a franchise that has gotten to be a little "routine"
