Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

The Cage

Possibly the worst TOS episode EVER! Spock is way out of character! I mean, smiling for god's sake!? The sets are totally wrong with those goose-neck thingies all over the place. Kirk is nowhere to be seen - who's this Pike guy! And then there's this woman (they keep calling "Number One" in an obvious rip-off of Riker in TNG) who we've never seen before, and never see again. And the whole story is just too cerebral, you know?

And then there's.....what? 1964? Really? First ever? You sure?

Huh.

Well, nevermind....

:)

Did you, perchance, used to work as a network executive back in the 60s?

Undoubtedly, it was Nemisis. It's and example of the height of "I need Hummer gas money so lets make a quick movie and milk some dumb Trekkies" mentality.

But, a close second or even first for other reasons was, from what I have experienced, to be the worst episode from the worst Trek ever.

Yes I am talking about "The Swarm" from VOY.

My review from another site. Warning Profanity.

Maybe not so much a slap in the face as a kick in the nuts. It was just that horrible for me. No so much insulting.

i'm not even an Enterprise fan, in fact I hated the show, but even I felt bad for a) Ent fans and b) Ent actors that the SERIES FINALE turn out to be a glorified TNG episode. A HOLODECK SIMULATION!? Talk about a microcosm for everything wrong with Star Trek at that point

I think the term fans is being applied with too narrow of a brush in this thread.

I don't agree with the idea that TATV was a slap in the face for all fans. I'm a fan of Shran, not the Enterprise crew. I thought TATV gave Shran a wonderful sendoff that he was completely deserving of. So in a small way, in my view TATV did indeed live up to it's promise of being a Valentine to the fans.

I could also see how TATV could be seen as a Valentine to those who are fans of other Trek shows, but not Enterprise specfically. After all, Enterprise was depicted as just a holodeck program and Archer's "big speech" depicted as not even worth listening to. Which should make fans of Trek do not like Enterprise in particular, happy.

I also don't get all the mass hate for "Let He Who Is Without Sin" from Trek fans. Not a remarkable episode, but it's marginally entertaining and at least a mediocre episode rather than an outright bad one.

My vote for biggest insulting episode to the fans is the abysmal hippy episode of TOS.

Wheras, I thought that Shran going from a major player on Andoria to a petty jewel thief was a slap in the face to the character and the actor.

Okay,

I think I misunderstood the intent of the threads question there at first.

So....

I am going to have to agree with those who said TATV. As an Enterprise fan it was very insulting to sub Enterprise to TNG in it's own show.

That and having to see Riker's fat ass one more time on TV.

Of course for those who hated Ent and loved TNG it must have been one great moment.

"In the Pale Moonlight"

If Roddenberry hadn't been cremated, he would be spinning in his grave.

Loved, loved, loved "In the Pale Moonlight," and if it spun Ruddenberry in his grave, I hope he enjoyed the ride.

What about Tracey Torme and Maurice Hurley? ;) Rick didn't start out as an Executive Producer in early TNG, you know.

Tormé and Hurley were both co-executive producers on ST:TNG with Gene Roddenberry while the latter was still (technically) alive and (even more technically) in creative control. However, Berman's sole culpability for DS9, VOY, ENT and the TNG films is beyond question.

Also, isn't it a bit premature to hate J.J. Adams - however unlikely it is he'll produce anything you like?

One glance at J.J. Abrams' IMDB entry - to say nothing of his selection of "writers" for the project - was more than enough to convince me that this film is going to be a conceptual, narrative and aesthetic nightmare of the first order.

Here's a good one - 'A Night in Sickbay' Phlox cutting his toenails didn't quite make my cut. It's second only to Kirk and Spock getting on a bus. I'm sorry but that just ruined everything for me completely.

This thread needs a poll. There are so many recurring punches it would be interesting to see which of 'em is the knock out blow.

but the VOY episode where Paris and Janeway do it as alien salamanders!

EWWWWWWWW!

The way that Janeway and Paris give it a glib send off back on the ship instead of retreating to their quarters and vomiting profusely is a bit much. If I was turned into a lizard and did it with the boss I'd be retching for a week afterwards.

Yeah, I would have appreciated even one episode to show us the crew settled down (or not) after a few years.

These Aren't the Voyages...

Berman and Braga's attempt to torch the place for insurance purposes! I feel for Manny Coto watching all that hard work go up in flames...
