Big Finish get River Song (and lots more!)

Basically everything from the New Series bar the man himself.

Their website seems to have crashed but you can read the details pretty much everywhere.

Damn, you beat me to the punch!

Big Finish's Facebook page has more information:

River will be stepping into the era of the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) for Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 2, alongside Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) and Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan). But how can River help her husband if, in this incarnation, she must never actually meet him?

“The idea of River meeting previous Doctors was actually proposed by Steven Moffat,” says producer David Richardson, “and it's just irresistible, isn't it? Alex embraced the idea of returning to the role, and so she will be starring in no less than two box sets next year. And yes, we are still pinching ourselves!”

River will then return later in 2016 in Doctor Who: The Diary of River Song, an epic four-hour adventure that takes River across space and time, seeking out the secret rulers of the universe. Paul McGann will reprise the role of the Eighth Doctor in the final instalment.

The New Series adventures will continue in Doctor Who: The Churchill Years, in which Ian McNeice returns as the indomitable Winston Churchill. In the four-hour saga, Winston relates a number of encounters with the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors in his memoirs, battling alien incursions, metamorphosing creatures... and a Dalek! The stories are told by Ian McNeice, supported by a full cast of guest actors, including Danny Horn as Kazran Sardick, in a story taking place within the 2010 special A Christmas Carol.

“Ian has played Churchill in just four episode on TV, and yet it feels like it was many more,” says executive producer Nicholas Briggs. “It was such a brilliant, definitive performance, and how wonderful that we will be continuing Churchill's adventures with the Doctor on audio.”

Finally, the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Doctors will face a new generation of monsters in Doctor Who: Classic Doctors, New Monsters, a brand new, four-story run featuring creatures from the New Series. Peter Davison takes on the Weeping Angels, Colin Baker encounters the Judoon, Sylvester McCoy will meet the Sycorax... and Paul McGann will face a new clone batch of Sontarans on the edge of the Time War....

“It's the ultimate mash-up,” says executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery, “and we have some great scripts lined up for these landmark stories. There is no doubt that 2016 is going to be a brilliant year for Big Finish!”
I'm really excited about the River Song appearances as well as the monsters boxset, although I would've much preferred the Ood over the Sycorax.

Here's something I never thought I'd see!

I don't listen to a lot of BF stuff but this is really interesting (doesn't hurt that Nicola Walker's involved, she's great and has always been on my female Doctor shortlist)

But....

Ten had no idea who River was, so I wonder how they'll explain the fact that Eight met her?

She doesn't tell him who she really is. Doesn't seem too difficult.

If you like Nicola Walker, then you should give Dark Eyes a go. While the stories are hit and miss, she's in most of the stories as The Eighth Doctor's companion (as she is for Doom Coalition) and she's phenomenal. She also appeared in an earlier Seventh Doctor story playing the same character (which was her introduction).

I really wonder how the Weeping Angels will work on audio. I think they would have fit Tom Baker better than Peter Davison, though. :)

As great as it is to have more River adventures, I wonder if this means that Moffat really and truly is done with her.

So I'd been wondering why the Sontarans were being considered New Series creations for these releases then I realised that they're probably going to do the first meeting between the Doctor and Strax.

The Strax batch is kind of a unique form of Sontaran. Specially stupid in a fun sort of way. A defective batch I think they said. Strax becoming a nurse and having a debt to the Doctor had to come from somewhere.

As for River Song. I would think she'd know the Doctor's that wouldn't know her, so she's fine. It was Ten that was the transition point so him not knowing her hurt the most, because one assume they did have a few adventures together, The Tenth Doctor and Professor River Song. I say that because the first time the Eleventh Doctor meets her that is how he introduces her to Amy, though that River is still only a doctor.

The first time we meet her, River said she knew all the Doctor's faces. While she could easily have just looked them up, the way she said it would seem more like she meet all of him over time and space. He just doesn't know her. The Ninth Doctor not knowing her or the Eight Doctor probably won't hurt so much as she'd expect them not to know her. Though not recognizing her later in his timeline could cause problems...but she likely has ways to make him forget. The memory worm for example.

The more I think about Eight/River, the more intrigued I am. And what would Benny and River be like? Would there be jealousy? Indifference? What?

The Churchill story doesn't interest me greatly. If it were about the historical Churchill rather than Gatiss' caricature Churchill, I'd be more interested.

Eight and River are an intriguing and potentially great pairing.

I wonder if the Churchill series is going to be like The Companion Chronicles.

I'm curious to hear how the Weeping Angels will be adapted to audio.

EDIT: In response to a FB question, Big Finish said the Churchill series will be more in the vain of The Early Adventures. Ian McNiece narration with full cast scenes.

I'm wondering if we'll eventually get some kind of follow up to Sarah Jane Adventures, perhaps with what happened to Luke and co (unfortunately Sladen herself has passed away). Katy Manning is doing some audios, maybe she can be in that too.

This was fantastic news to wake up to this morning. My BF new series wish list:

1) Tenant and Piper.
2) The Paternoster Gang (either in a group or individually)
3) The Impossible Girl vs. Dr. Simeon throughout the Doctor's timeline.
4) The Freaking Time War!
5) Jacobi's Master
6) I sincerely hope that John Hurt will be well enough to participate and that Chris Eccleston will be willing. But if not, I respectfully submit that Nick Briggs has previously given splendid performances as both the War and Ninth Doctors.

I love his enthusiasm but he goes a little crazy at the end.
I had completely forgotten who The Wire were, and I had to go to Google to find out. That's how completely I had blocked out "The Idiot's Lantern." :)
Took me a few seconds to remember but suddenly it clicked as he continued to rave about how great an idea would be to bring back The Wire. Ugh.

So I'd been wondering why the Sontarans were being considered New Series creations for these releases then I realised that they're probably going to do the first meeting between the Doctor and Strax.
That and the description of the story indicates a direct connection to the Time War, which is a New Series element, and the Sontarans were unable to participate for some reason.

The more I think about Eight/River, the more intrigued I am. And what would Benny and River be like? Would there be jealousy? Indifference? What?
That would be a great pairing and this might be the only time we'll get the much-wanted pairing of Jack and River as well.

The Churchill story doesn't interest me greatly. If it were about the historical Churchill rather than Gatiss' caricature Churchill, I'd be more interested.
Yeah, I don't really care for this boxset so much for exactly that reason. Which is a shame because Ian McNiece has done some great work with Big Finish in the past.

4) The Freaking Time War!
The Eighth Doctor/Sontaran story of the Monster boxset will have some Time War connection apparently. Not full blown Time War, but it's a start.

I'd still rather not get the "freaking Time War", and for two reasons:

1) Its better that its never been shown, as its an event so colosal, so enormous and by its nature, complicated, that any series couldn't possibly explain it sufficiently.
2) No Warrior. If he's not to be played by John Hurt, whats the point?
