I remember seeing that outtake. They should have used it!
I used to really love Big Bang, now its just Friends with a few science jokes!
I wouldn't say it's stooped to that level.
Only the season enders/beginnings seem to devolve into Friends territory. The rest of the show is still pretty ace.

When Penny was trying to stump Leonard, I actually thought that they might get all meta and have her ask him what her maiden name was.
That would haver actually be awesome.. and when he tries to reply it either gets muffled by some loud sound or he gets interrupted (and to get the joke further he could mock her later by feigning indignation for implying he didn't know her name)
That would've been awesome, but at this point it's like trying to figure out which state Springfield is in.
I have a feeling that Penny's maiden name will go the way of the Doctor: a secret that must never be revealed.

It stinks that the show is written to be re-broadcast at all hours of the night on any channel.
Aren't we talking about a show where four of the characters have gotten married, others have had relationships evolve and change over years and various character schticks have been eliminated?
That's a good point. If someone were only familiar with the first season version of the characters, watching the current season would be a little jarring.
"Raj is talking to girls without a beer in his hands? Those two are married!?!"
With such shows changes often happen at a very slow pace because they are not designed this way.
The characters have their quirks that translate into humor so there is no need for huge changes often enough if the formula works. Changes often come as a natural progression if the producers decide they want change or it becomes sort of unbelievable that no change ever happens, e.g. Sheldon mistreating Amy for 10+ more seasons can get pretty stale so they they changed up the status quo which in turn opens up new possibilities to tell some stories that are not following a well trodden path.
This is one of the problems i had with Two and Half Men (although i like it). For 10+ seasons Alan hasn't changed at all.. he was a stuck up cheapskate in the pilot and the show finale. Charlie was the drunk womanizer from day one until he was written out of the show (with few attempts at an ongoing development that was quickly rolled back to status quo). It may still be funny but also got stale in the end.. you could skip half a season and still follow the episodes with no problems.

My wife and I started watching only after it had been on for a while (seeing the rock/paper/scissor/lizard/Spock bit online got us interested), so we were very confused over the on/off Penny/Leonard relationship. We had to get the DVDs and watch it in order to - almost - understand it.
