Beyond 4th anniversary

Watched it the other night. Still think it would have been better if the Franklin was a NX class ship. I get that it’s a different universe and all but I just think it would have tied better to the history of the canon; especially with it being released around the 50th anniversary.
That Starbase was also ridiculous. Way too advanced for that universe. I don’t even see them having a base like that in the 29th century.

How was it way too advanced?
The sheer scale of the thing; with the skyscrapers, lakes And parks. Just seemed way too advanced with everything we’ve seen so far. Would have been better if they just had a slightly larger version of Spacedock.

I'm not so sure. The original style of Starfleet Headquarters had lakes and parks and such features. I see no reason for such a large, cosmopolitan, facility be constructed in celebration of their unity of largely diverse alien populations.

Yeah but that was on a planet. Space should be at a premium when building in space.

No, not on a planet but a space station.

Space is not a premium in Trek.
It used to be. Before the JJ films with those ridiculous large spaces which become death traps every time the JJPrise is attacked.
The parks on space stations are usually small. They don’t have ridiculously large lakes in them.

I haven't felt like space was a premium since the appearance of the Galaxy class.

They made a point that Yorktown was the jewel in the Federation's crown.

And really, the only gimmick it uses is artificial gravity, which has been a Trek thing forever (albiet on horizontal planes until now), inside a big bubble of air.

And it's the most visually amazing thing in all of Trek's 50 years. I got to tell the designer that on facebook and he thanked me, which was kind of amazing.

Given the number of member worlds and species in the Federation I would imagine such a project would be appropriate in encompassing many different species united on one location.

While I thought Beyond the weakest of the trilogy, I very much enjoyed it and said at the time I'd be happy if they cranked out similar 5-year mission adventures forever.

And for a very brief time, I believed they might:wah:

yeah it looks like the Star Trek kelvin universe crew is done. After Anton died it kind of sealed it I think. Also pines Star has grown beyond Star Trek(pun intended). He has so many opportunities now I don’t think he cares to have “he played James T Kirk” on his tombstone. He wants to build other roles at this point. The prime universe is pretty much kelvin in style now so give those a try if you haven’t yet.

Tragic as it is when a cast member dies, it doesn't mean the rest of the cast can't continue.
and I get the impression with Star Trek they would all want to!!!!!

Weird thing to say, since no parks of any kind have ever existed on the one space station that does.

Yeah but it doesn’t make financial sense. Each movie made less than the first, they cost to much and the return is to little.

Huh.. Yorktown was 1.3 Trillion polygons.. Fuxk... A complicated ship may be hits 1 million.

Was intended that an arm was 17 miles long.. So guessing 34 miles wide sphere? Not bad but that's what? 2 Oniell island 3 cylinders?

Kind of wish they made it a small dysons sphere with the people living on the shell inner surface. And. Maybe a tube going through it for the space dock.

The market could be in their favor more now. Plus, you know, not waiting so long between installments.

Ive never been a fan of Beyond but rewatching the last half hour the other night when it showed on 'proper' TV I did appreciate the finale twists and turns; The NX style Franklin itself, Krall revealed as a space crazy captain (a long standing trope of TOS), the MACO/Xindi references (implying Edison was on the NX01). and the last few minutes went anniversary crazy: the Trek V photo (literally gasped when saw it on the big screen), Bones' 'Q' reference, absent friends (cleverly edited so Pine looks specifically at Yelchin), the 'Lost Years' novel cover recreation of KSB looking upward, and finally the cutaway poster style construction of the Ent-A (with TMP floodlights)

It's a solidly entertaining blockbuster. I still maintain it would have made enough money for an immediate sequel if it had a better release date that wasn't so crowded with other blockbusters.

So My Favorite scenes from Star Trek Beyond.....
1 Original Cast picture(highly moving)
2 Gravity slip stream fight scenes(beautifully visualized)
3 All scenes with Sofia Boutella (every line delivered with perfect delivery and intonation)
4 Spock discovering ambassador spock had died ( highly poignant)
5 All Spock and Bones scenes
6Uhura spoting Krall as Captain of the USS Franklin
7 All the writing by Simon peg
-----------------------------------------------------------
only Criticism's
some of the action a bit to fast in places
Krall (Idris Elba ) should have been human all the way through.(not cgi)

Overall while not perfect there is a hell of a lot to like
