From Hardradio.com:
Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records has inked legendary actor William Shatner to a world-wide recording deal for a space-themed concept album entitled Seeking Major Tom to be released later this year. Comprised of 18 "interpretations" of classic intergalactic rock anthems, the release features guest appearances by Brian May (QUEEN), Ian Paice (DEEP PURPLE), Steve Howe (YES), Peter Frampton and former OZZY axeman Zakk Wylde (pictured below in session with Captain Kirk himself!) amongst other icons to be confirmed later. As previously reported, last week Shatner joined Zakk Wylde at his Black Label Bunker, to lay down tracks for a cover of BLACK SABBATH's classic, 'Iron Man'.
I own the CD for Transformed Man as well as Nimoy's Highly Illogical. I bought them mostly out of curiosity, so this new project should be "fascinating".

Cool. I really liked Has Been, and anything with Brian May gets me interested. I wonder if it'll have his interpretation of Rocket Man

Steve Howe does some amazing work, especially outside of Yes. It'll be interesting to see how that song is done.

Since it's space themed, trekkiebaggio, I would thing Rocket Man would have to be on there.

Hawkwind did a song called Space Is Deep in 1972.

I don't think they could improve on the original Shatner Rocket Man so unless they've got the original track remixed and cleaned up (but otherwise note for note intact) I don't want to see it on here.

From the title I assume that Space Oddity's on there and that's long over due, however.

Has Been was a great piece of art I'll sample this and decide when it comes out. Heck, who am I kidding I'm a Shat nut, I'll get it.

Has Been was a good cd. though, his cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds from The Transformed Man was horrid.

Pfft... they should have gotten some people from Gamma Ray or Iron Savior on there. Those guys are the king of science-fiction themed songs and albums.
