Best/Worst Picks

^^ Case in point, Garak. Arguably the best written character on Star Trek, period. Not even a principle character.

^^ Well, that is really a matter of personal preference, not objective fact, Navaros. I personally agree with your preference...but I really don't feel comfortable saying it is the 'correct' preference. ;)

That said, I also am really struggling with the OP and his so-called 'research' methods. First, because true 'research' is really a ridiculous term for what we are doing here. Answering a poll on an internet message board is hardly participating in true scientific research.

But more to the point, it does disturb me that the OP seems to have determined what the 'correct' answer should be...and when the results did not prove him out, is now setting about ways of discrediting them.

I guess one good thing is that in future, he prolly won't be pimping his polls in the DS9 forum, huh? Better to just leave us off the advertising list entirely than to risk our participation and possible upset of the predetermined outcome.

DAMN us! We are ALWAYS screwing up the works around here! :guffaw:

It's Ira's fault. If he hadn't made DS9 so damned good, we wouldn't care half as much.....

Here's a thought as to why you don't see (m)any DS9/TOS or DS9/TNG responses. DS9 is built on the foundation of the other two series. The Ferengi, tribbles, Cardassians, Bajorans, and so many more DS9 elements are a direct outgrowth of TOS and TNG. VOY and ENT are both UPN shows that are easier to separate from the rest of the franchise, so they are easier responses to give in this type of poll.

^ Well, I don't think it's correct to say that DS9 'grew' out of TOS/TNG and VOY/ENT did not.

Each of the 5 shows has certain things in common with the others...and many things NOT in common.

TNG had Ferengi and Cardassians...but they were hardly that well developed. The Ferengi in particular were like cartoon characters on TNG. And one episode with tribbles (which was done specifically to celebrate an important anniversary of Trek) hardly counts as this huge inclusion of tribbles on DS9. ;)

Further, DS9 had several races that were NOT on TNG or TOS. The Jem'Hadar, the Vorta, the Founders, and several GQ races where never shown on TOS or TNG.

This does not differ at all from VOY. VOY had Cardassians, and even Ferengi. Plus they had the Borg...and there is no bigger throwback to TNG than that! I mean, VOY taking on the Borg basically turned TNG's 'biggest bad' into VOY's 'biggest bad'. So really, VOY and TNG are even more heavily linked than are TNG and DS9....because say what you will about DS9, the 'big bad' on DS9 was not a TOS or TNG race at all.

Frankly, I'm not surprised in the slightest that there are not many DS9/TOS responses. Most Niners that I know like TOS if they have seen it. I think it has to do mainly with the type of main characters which are present on the two shows - TOS and DS9 are very similar in that Our Heroes are *flawed* heroes....not ones who run around making speeches to all of these errant non-Federation races...but ones who make mistakes and learn from those mistakes.

As for TNG, I can't help you there as I myself voted DS9/TNG. But my suspicion is that it is because the perception is, at a number of places on this board (not just among DS9 fans) that VOY and ENT were considered to be sub-par. I don't happen to agree with that perception myself - particularly where VOY is concerned. But I think you will find that MANY people around here don't care for VOY or ENT. That is not a DS9 fan-specific view, but a view that is held fairly widely on TrekBBS. ;)

I'm not "assuming," I'm theorizing--I'm creating a hypothesis. Perhaps the trends you describe are true of real Trekkies who like all the series, and fans who like only one or two wouldn't describe themselves as Trekkies. That seems like a reasonable hypothesis.

The reason DS9 always wins Polls amongst hardcore Trek fans is simply because it is the best and most popular show amongst hardcore Trek fans. Not because fans of other shows stay away from Polls.

Hmmmm....What I wrote that you quoted and this paragraph of yours say exactly the same thing.

I posted the same invitation in each of the five show threads--I can't see how that's stacking the deck. Frankly, when I look down the list of thread creaters on the Voyager section, I don't see many of those names around in this thread or the other poll that I created--some but not all. Angel4576 and I very nicely settled our differences with a  apiece, and 'lo and behold, the war starts again. Angel and I went nine rounds this weekend, and we're done. I've learned my lesson and refuse to go nine rounds with anyone else.

...what?

I'm not allowed to post that. But GalaxyX is allowed to post stuff like this here;???

And KayArr is allowed to bait people with his multi-forum threads pushing people into this thread by arguing about DS9?

I'm pretty new here to. But from the exposure I've had to this message board, I can already say that you're probably the most annoying poster I've come across.

This poll's results don't jive with your opinion. And that apparently isn't fine with you otherwise you wouldn't be attempting to dispute them.

When you put anything up for a vote, there is always the chance that the results wont be inline with your expectations. If you knew in advance you couldn't handle that, you shouldn't have made the poll.

You accuse the DS9 fans of 'chasing away' fans of the other shows, calling it 'sad'.

Pathetic.

All I see are people coming into this thread, casting votes, and posting their vote publicly below.

The only person I see vehemently arguing about DS9 across the message board is you. And to make it worse, you're doing it having seen very little of the show.

If anybody is chasing anybody else off, it is you.

Ridiculous.

I know you're new, but One Warning for Flaming. Please don't attack other posters. Comments via PM.

TOS/TNG

Ditto

I watched all of TNG and Ent. I loved TNG. Ent was pretty good but from what I've seen of TOS, I think it beats Ent, by far.

PK, shouldn't you be giving yourself a warning here? tsk, tsk, talking about a poster! ;)

If my count is correct, Voyager has 34 votes for worst series, and Enterprise has a mere 32. It brings a chuckle because even while I might pick either of these series as a least favorite, I watched them both, and it wouldn't surprise me that many of you did as well.
