Best Wii Games?

No More Heroes is a one player game, and it's a button masher (you do move the wiimote up and down to determine where you strike); however, the pace of the action and the big baddies make it all worthwhile. The end baddies are very much Kill Bill meets retro video game. I have had more fun with this game, and have started going through it in "bitter" mode now that I've beaten the thing once. It's the only Wii game I have that I've revisited.

Okami. Get it. Great adventure in Zelda style but to do with Japanese traditional art and mythology.

Agreed. I haven't played the Wii version, but it's my favourite PS2 game.

As for multiplayer games, I usually end up playing Super Smash Bros, Mario Party, or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Well there's a name I haven't seen in a while. How you been?

I'm playing Trauma Center: Second Opinion right now. It's a lot of fun, but I'm stuck on this one part that's making me want to throw my Wii against the wall. :p

Here's my Wii Games:

Bust a Move Bash!
Game Party
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Mario Kart Wii
Metroid Prime III: Corruption
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Rayman Raving Rabids
Red Steel
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil 4 -- Wii Edition
Star Trek: Conquest
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Transformers The Game

I love them all, and each get a spin in my Wii. The Guitar Heroes, Lego games, amd Mario Kart gets the most play, though. I finished Mario Galaxy and Brawl. R.E. TUC gerts regular play as well. I'm nearly done with that one. I just got a Perfect Shot attatchment, which is just too cool. I'm now looking foward to The Force Unleashed, and the forth-comming Zelda title for the Wii.

^ What are your impressions of Star Trek: Conquest? I understand it's a budget title, and I know it didn't get especially great reviews. Just curious to hear form someone who actually owns it :)

It's actually quite addictive once you get the hang of it. The map looks like a game board, as you move across the galaxy map, you battle ships that are in that space. If you win the battle, you control that area. You do this until you take over the whole map. The conrols are pretty neat too. You move your ship with the Nunchuk analog stick, and move your target with the Wii Mote. When you have a target locked on, you press te b button trigger, and fire your phasers. I believe the A button is torpedoes. It's a lot more fun than the reviewers gave it credit for. If you see it on sale somewhere definately pick it up. It's worth a rental at least.

Mario Kart Wii is also great, and I have to say that I'm not as bothered by the whole leveling of the playing field, I tend to win 85% of the time 'cause I'm quite skilled at it, the other 15% I get "cheated" out of a victory by some stupid item or whatnot (Blue goddamn shell anyone?) :scream:

Urgh, I hate those blue shells!! Definately the worst item addition to the more recent games. It's unfair to the skilled racers who fight for first to get hit by some chump in last place who won't benefit from the hit anyway.

Have there not always been blue shells? I accept blue shells as part of the game. However, in Mario Kart Wii, you get hit by a bomb, then a blue shell, then a red shell, then you get lightning, then someone runs over you and you go from first place to ninth!

It doesn't help that in this game you lose your non-activated weapons to boot.

And it always happens five metres from the finish line on lap 3.

For the record, when I see a blue shell coming I slam on the brakes and try to take out anyone behind me in the explosion.

No More Heroes is a video game parody... so, it includes bad gameplay for the sake of humour... except that you end up hating the game because of the bad gameplay. :p

Boom Blox is nice, but it's fairly shallow. It's part Jenga and part puzzle game.

Yeah, that's really the only strategy for avoiding them. I think blue shells were introduced in Double Dash!! for the GameCube. The original for the SNES, 64 and Super Circuit for the GBA didn't have them.

^ Mario Kart 64 had Blue Shells, but they were a little different then. They cruised along the track like red/green shells and took out anybody else who got in their way. They were fairly uncommon, though, and I don't know if there was a way to stop them...

I never played Super Circuit, so I dunno about that one.

Haha, I just recently found out that if you press and hold the item button in Mario Kart Wii, you'll dangle your item behind you, preventing red and green shells from hitting you, and bumping back anyone who bumps into you from behind. Man, has this improved my chances of NOT getting blasted down to 12th.

What's your favourite set-up? I'm partial to Diddy on a Mach bike. Wroom Wroom.

^ Haha, you only just learned that? :D It's a useful skill. Just ask rType, who shot out a green shell behind him on the last corner of Ghost Valley and smacked me right in the face. :scream:

My favourite setup is Baby Daisy on the Bullet Bike. The cornering is tough (it drifts inwards), but once you learn it's nuances it's pretty neat.

Edit: It'd be a logistical nightmare, but it'd be fun if we could set up a TrekBBS match since a few of us here have the game.

^ I don't recall that, but I'm sure you deserved it. ;)

My preferred setup for Mario Kart is Baby Peach on Standard Bike S. I get knocked flying if anyone so much as glances in my direction.

Hopefully Nintendo will announce Pilotwings, F-Zero, or Starfox at E3. Aside from Mario Kart (which is a lot of fun) I'm running out of reasons to keep the console around. Given that I've stuck with Nintendo since the NES days, that's a scary thought.

Yeah, I feel you on that one. I've had every incarnation on the Nintendo, so it's kinda hard to let go if that should become necessary.

A new F-zero, Pilotwings or Starfox would be great. also I'm waiting for some update on Mario Party 9, and perhaps a new Mega-Man (besides the über-cool new one coming out on wiiware made entirely in 8-bit like Mega-man 1 and 2).

I like the way the Mach Bike corners so extremely tight, kinda inwards. Although on TT I prefer to go with Bowser on Bowser Bike or so.. When no opponents are around and I know the track really well, you just need that speed.

I saw a Lightsaber-type controller for the Wii today. Is there a new Star Wars game coming out? Are there any other games that would (or could) use a sword controller?

The Force Unleasehed, and The Clone Wars are due out this year. The Force Unleashed is a port of the massively released next chapter of Star Wars coming out in September, The Clone Wars is based on the new CGI movie, and all focus is on Lightsaber combat. This is perhaps the Wii Star Wars game we've been wanting. The Clone Wars game is exclusive to the Wii after all. You could probably port it, but it wouldn't be the same.
