Best Wii Games?

Finally got a Wii a couple days ago. And boy was my arm sore the next day! I only have Sports and Play, and I find Play to be pretty much worthless.

What are the best games, aside from the obvious (Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Mario Brawl)? And particularly multiplayer/co-op games. For example, is Metroid 3 co-op or single player?

Metroid Prime 3 is single player only, but the FPS controls alone make it worth playing IMO.

The three obvious ones you mentioned are indeed the best the console has right now. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is another fun game for one or two players.

Okami. Get it. Great adventure in Zelda style but to do with Japanese traditional art and mythology.

Mario Kart Wii is fun. The on-line component also works really well.

Just make sure you have gamecube controllers for it.

I like the Wii wheel. If nothing else, the trigger isn't awkward if you're just using the Wiimote to drive. However, Mario Kart is only fun sometimes. Other times it feels like the game is broken, because Nintendo wants someone who picks up the game for the first time to be just as competitive as a seasoned pro. In other words, the game is all about luck and cheapness, not skill.

not necessary. the wii wheel takes a couple hours to get used to but its more fun with it.

Yes, I hated the wheel for the first 2 or 3 weeks because it was hard. But once I made myself practice with it I have become far better with it than I ever was with any other controller.

I love the LEGO:Star Wars games and I heard LEGO:IJ is also a great game. LEGO Batman comes out later this year and I think it will be rather different than SW or IJ.

Agreed. I find the wheel better than the Gamecube controller. Now in Smash Bros. I prefer the Gamecube controller. I have more control with it.

My favorite games on the Wii are:

Smash Bros.
Mario Kart
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Sonic and the Secret Rings

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games will give you a sore arm...

My kids have been hooked on Thrillville, but I see it crash pretty consistantly, bad form for a LucasArts game I say...

I have 10 Wii games and have enjoyed all of them:

Mario Kart Wii
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Wii Play
Wii Sports

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is great! It's just, damn it becomes a lot easir to get head shots when playing on the Wii. But I guess that's the case for any FPS's, I mean, it's hard to get used to the far inferior aiming controls on other consoles when you've been able to shoot whereever you want on the screen with the wii, and not just in the center like on the PS and the XBOX.

Super Mario Galaxy is just awesome. :bolian:

Legend of Zelda is just.. Well, unique in the best possible way. :bolian:

Mario Kart Wii is also great, and I have to say that I'm not as bothered by the whole leveling of the playing field, I tend to win 85% of the time 'cause I'm quite skilled at it, the other 15% I get "cheated" out of a victory by some stupid item or whatnot (Blue goddamn shell anyone?) :scream:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is great fun, and continues to get better for those that practice and learn new techniques.

Stay clear of Mario Party 8 though, and wait for the next in line. Mario Party 8 was rushed and really, really REALLY sucks when compared to 1, 2 or 3. Hell, it ain't even in 16:9, so if you're playing on a widescreen tv, it'll just have bars on both sides.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is mad, underrated fun. It goes some way towards recapturing the essence of the original 2D titles. It's a flawed gem, but when it's at its best it's unbelievable fun and will take your breath away.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (yeah, I'm a Sega fan) has the kind of charm you don't often see in games today. It has many flaws and is occasionally frustrating, but it's lovely to look at and the soundtrack is gorgeous. It's a shame this game got buried under the Mario Galaxy juggernaut...Galaxy may have been the better game on paper, but I enjoyed NiGHTS far more - if for no other reason than because it made me happy.

Endless Ocean is very relaxing. You literally just swim around while a loose - but interesting - plot unfolds around you. Lots and lots to see and do, and it's neither challenging nor boring.

Mario Kart Wii makes me mad as hell sometimes. Being 10 metres from the finish line in 1st place, then getting blue-shelled, squished, starred, bumped, and red shelled, and finally dawdling across the line in 12th place is an extremely frustrating experience. There's no skill involved here - just dumb luck. Still, it's mad fun - especially online.

I'd also recommend Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles from WiiWare. I know some people have been up in arms about the DLC, but the core game is very much complete and will last you a good 15 hours. It's wonderfully addictive and original, completely lacking in all the complexities of modern JRPGs and 'God games,' while retaining the distilled essence of both.

Okami. Get it. Great adventure in Zelda style but to do with Japanese traditional art and mythology.

Agreed. I haven't played the Wii version, but it's my favourite PS2 game.

As for multiplayer games, I usually end up playing Super Smash Bros, Mario Party, or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

I've already played Marvel Alliance and all three Lego Star Wars/Indy games on previous consoles.

Sonic is actually on clearance at my local EB, will have to get that.

Mario Kart is all ABOUT the last minute double cross :D We play MK religiously on N64 and NGC all the time, just about everyday before work.

My GF randomly bought 3 games on clearance and they're insanely bad/frustrating: The Bigs (baseball), Super Monkey Ball (annoying mini-games where the motion-sensing doesnt work), and Fishing Master (where the fish never bite the hook!).

No More Heroes is a brilliantly fun--but mature--game for the Wii. I highly recommend it. It's up there with Resident Evil 4 as my favorite so far.

I was interested in No More Heroes, though less so when I learned you don't actually swipe the sword with your remote. I take it that it's one player?
