Best villain ever

^^
Roddenberry was losing interest by the 3rd season, so I wonder if he would be considered a 'villain' of Trek as well?

lol

Anywho, I think Warren Stevens' character was a cold villain in 'By Any Other Name'...because he crumbled the cute yeoman...

....but, he did let the brutha live....

Hmmm...

(That episode could have some critical commentary on it because of that scene...especially since it came out in the sixties...especially since 'black' characters usually died).

Things that make you go....'hmmmmmmmm.'

Still, Balok could be a villain. He gets you enamored with tasty Tranya, after having you think he's such a bad guy. (Oh, but that isn't a real villain...that's a clever character).

There could be a Romulan war going on...or a frigate in need of help; but, Balok will want to enjoy his glass of Tranya before doing anything.

Sidenote: I'm surprised Quark never marketed Tranya in his bar...or did he?

*Tranya popsicles
*Diet Tranya (Or is Tranya low-cal to begin with?)
*Tranya O's Cereal
*Tranya breakfast bar
*Tranya power mix
*Trayna sherbet
*Tranya Man cartoon series
*Tranya Man action figures
*Tranya plush dolls

I'm digressing...:(

probably the Gorn is one of the most memorable TOS villains.

:bolian:

While I can sort of understand, from a budget standpoint, why ToS didn't bring them back, it always mystified me that, except for a poorly done CGI appearance on Enterprise and a cameo in the cartoon, the Gorn was largely abandoned as an enemy.

If anything, I think TNG missed a trick not making them a "big bad" after the Klingons became allies. Imagine, if you will, a race of relentless, super-strong, very smart, dinosaur people going to war with the Federation using the updated SFX available at that time. They could have made the Borg look like the Ferengi.

It was because of Royalties, same reason they didn't use the Tholians again. If a species or idea is used more than once in the show it's the property of the show, if it's only used once it's the property of the writer and they would be paid every time those guys were used again by other shows in the franchise.

Then why wouldn't they have used everything at least twice to avoid coming up with new characters and, further, to save on potential royalties?

I can't pick a favorite. There were a number of really good ones, already mentioned. :)

It never occurred to them how popular those guys would became to the fandom?

They should have just used Kor as the Klingon General in TUC instead of making a new character in Chang.

Frankly, I never got what was so good about Khan. I mean, he was just some revenge-crazed nut in WoK and in Space Seed he only got any power through an incredibly- weak-willed Historian.

Well, the charisma mainly comes from Montalban and not the writing/direction. I mean really, take away Montalban's presence and acting and what are you left with? Not much, if anything.

His madness wasn't all that admirable in WoK either really. Of course there's plenty in WoK that never made much sense to begin with.

His madness at the end of TWOK was not admirable; it was pathos-inspiring. Like Ahab before him, he allowed his obsession to destroy him.

wow

Was that ever considered?

But then you don't get a past-his-prime, once-famous guest star.

It does the "Full Circle" thing, in that the Klingon villain at the end of the TOS Klingon conflict was also the very first Klingon villain the show had.

Does Mudd count? Or puppet Balok scared me to death as a kid.

Still, hands down, it has to be the Romulan commander in "Balance of Terror." There was a villain who was also (sorry) human. What other villain did you ever admire and feel sorry for?
