Like with my previous thread, I'd like to ask, which of the five shows had the best second season?

NOTE: I allowed multiple choices, but please refrain yourselfs from mocking the thread, as I do this because I wonder if anyone is torn between the choices. For instance, one may say TNG and DS9 had the best two second seasons, but all other shows's second seasons sucked - know what I mean?

Well?

1. TOS

2. DS9 had the Circle trilogy and Maquis two-parter which are some of the best multi-part episodes in Trek IMO. It had Cardassians, Sanctuary, Blood Oath, The Jem'Hadar but it also had some rather weak episodes too--Melora, Rules of Acquisition, The Alternate, Playing God.

3. TNG-2is underrated. Many are quick to dismiss it but forget it had The Measure of a Man, Q Who?, Elementary Dear Data, Peak Performance, Pen Pals, Samaritan Snare, A Matter of Honor.

4. ENT-2 was not so bad a season as a very mediocre season with a bunch of stories that were ripped off from Trek but without any interesting spin or twist--episodes like Canamar, Dawn, The Crossing, Precious Cargo. But it did have some respectable hours like Carbon Creek, Minefield Dead Stop, The Catwalk, Cease Fire, Future Tense, Stigma, First Flight, Regeneration, The Expanse

5.VOY It was a rather weak season but in hindsight Piller had the right ideas but the execution was iffy.

TOS wins again. The others were slightly above average in their second seasons though.

1. TOS very easy choice, fantastic eps like Doomsday Machine, Ultimate Computer, The Changeling, Obsession, Trouble with Tribbles, Immunity Syndrome, etc.

2. Voyager, really keeping the show grounded, Voyager isn't unstoppable or invincible. Great eps Like The 37's, Projections, Maneuvers, Alliances, Prototype, Meld, Investigations, Tuvix and Basics make it a force to be reckoned with.

3. DS9 great strides forward from an iffy season 1. Great arc with the Circle eps, establishing the Maquis works really well.

4. TNG some good eps, some wierd eps, some bad eps. Although I liked the feel of the season, a little darker than the rest of TNG, it doesn't beat the rest. Contagion and the Emissary were great hours of television.

5. ENT Sadly it takes up the rear. I like the series as a whole, but season2 was really its low point. Some good episodes like Dead Stop, Singularity, The Catwalk, Regeneration and The Expanse. Some really dissapointing eps included, Dawn, The Crossing and Canamar.

I think that DS9 takes the lead for the best second season, with TOS and TNG following close behind. VOY and ENT are in the bottom because of all the rehashed plots. Admittedly, each show had several excellent episodes during Season Two, but there were, still, a lot of stinkers.

TOS again. It's the most conistent oft the bunch. Never cared that much for DS9 S2 - except for some real strong episodes, but it make second place on my list. TNGs and VOYs second season were both still too inconsistent, while ENTs had this long streak of dull episodes in the middle.

TOS's season 2 is excellent, almost as good as TOS's season 1. Its probably one of the very best seasons of Trek, of all time.

TNG's second season is a vast improvement over the first - for one, no boring Crusher, and a lovable (and missable ever since) Pulaski taking over. Second, the show takes a decidedly darker tone, especially represented with this season's "Q Who". Also, the characters are beggining to flesh out real nicely, and they slowly but steadily become real characters, and not caricatures. For one, Wesley stops half-way the season being annoying - isn't that something? And not to mention the show's best, IMO, episode of all time - "Measure of a Man". Truly, a look for things to come.

DS9's second season is every bit as good as the first, only better - Garak fleshes out, and so do a number of others. The Bajoran three-story-arc is great , and we also get our first Dominion taste. "Jem Hadar" is also the franchise's best cliffhanger ever since TNG's "Best of Both Worlds". Overally, a really good season.

VOY's second season is practically the same as the first. Tuvok is half the times a cool character, and the other times he's a joke. Neelix becomes slowly more obnoxious, and Janeway is still irritating.

And ENT's second season is, without a doubt, the franchise's most boring season, ever! Easily ENT's worst.

So I'd rank them:

1. TOS
(gap)
2. DS9
3. TNG
(gigantic gap)
4. VOY

'Nuff said.

TOS..but I agree with the poll results - at this point DS9 was picking up speed somewhat. Not there yet...but picking up speed.

Overall, I think its clear that TOS's season 2 is, without much doubt, the best second season of any Trek show.

*As of 26-03-08, of course.
