Best Trek Episode ever- Far Beyond the stars

PKTrekGirl has the habit of censoring and locking up any post that deals with the man in my avatar, so there clearly is a bias there when all other forums have no problems with it except her.
Now you're using a variation of Steve Martin's "He hates cans!" logic.

However, Georgia is one of many southern and midwestern states in the United States that voted overwhelmingly for John McCain, and that there is a fact.
No need to repeat irrelevant facts. You have already proven that stereotyping is okay, for you but not for others.

It is a good episode, I won't dispute that, but there are so many other episodes that are much much better.

Germany didn't pat themselves on the back this much for Merkel. Yikes.

FBTS almost gave us the worst series ending EVER. If Behr (it was Behr right?) won and had that horrible ending tacked on to WYLB...ugh.

This episode has many nuances...for example, Dax as pure bimbo, Jake as a street wise guy, O'brien as the guy who digs robots, Quark as the communist, Worf as the honorless guy. And I find Avery Brook's performance when Russel is breaking down moving, and not histrionic and over the top as some people say. His father as a "father" is also brilliant, as is the ending when it is not clear of who is the dreamer and who is the dream. To bad the follow up with Benny Russel was messed.Overall, this episode is the most touching, most realistic, most down to earth Trek episode ever.
No question that the metaphor and cerbral tone of this ep. is great but, and I hate saying this because Avery Brooks is one of the best actors ever in Trek, his overacting changes this episode from a 10 to a 7.5 and to top it off the other performances in this episode shine a big spotlight on the fact Brooks trying too hard.

In the Pale Moonlight is IMHO the best DS9 and Trek episode ever.

The way you word it like that, you may give off the erroneous impression that all Asians are racist against other races, which is not true.

I'd have to say you're really, really jumping the gun here. How does my wording imply that ALL Asians are racist? For one thing, I noted one person, and another thing, I mentioned vigilance against minority-on-minority racism. Not "all minorities will screw themselves over." On the other hand, the fact that there is even one minority-on-minority event of racism should have the same impact and alarm as several instances, simply because the appearance of one bit of racism should enough to drive people into positive action for equal rights.

I'd also like to mention that, yes, in Britain, they've got their own Asian-minority problems there, some of which mirrors the fight for Asian American equality treatment here. Among those leading the fight in Britain are, yes, people who identify themselves as South Asian origin. America, for good or for ill, is indeed a leader in the global community in terms of racial tolerance. Every Asian American activist out there has some friend or relative in another country, and more than likely many of them have friends and family in non-Asian countries. Even the British tabloids will be among the first to state that an actor of Indian origin will be the first actor to "fill in the blank here." That's how trends on the international level happen, and this is one of the main reasons why there's a British-Asian fight going on today, by comparing notes over international borders.

Dude... I live in a blue state and I voted for Obama, but the way you keep bringing him up in every single thread is getting really old.

Okay, dude.

I got it.

It is just a few posts made in time for the elections.

I mean, how often do we get a chance to mention Barack Obama's historical election the day it happened on a DS9 board with the first African American Star Trek captain?

Great ep, but not the best ever, imo. It's certainly well done; the story is great, acting great, message great - But it's a little short on entertainment value. To me, a best episode candidate has to have those qualities but also strong replay value. I can watch Best of Both Worlds, In the Pale Moonlight, and Balance of Terror, over and over again and I love em every time. I'd get tired of this one if I had to watch it often.

Seconded. It was old before election day and almost a month later is even older.

The other thing that happened with this episode...I read the novelization before actually seeing it, and the novel was WAY better.

One of the best..sure..but the best? No way. The Visitor is by far the best deep space nine episode...IMO

I liked this episode, in that I liked to see their reactions and how they'd be in a different life, with a different measure of technology. And there were other things too- not just prejudice against people with dark skin, but women too. And both those prejudices are still strong- I'd say its as bad in Canada or worse than in the US. So even though the subject is "old" people aren't really "learning." But I too wish that when everyone saw another person- they saw only another human being whose life is just as important as theres, age, race, colour, gender as completely irrelevant unless its necessary for medical reasons or something. But you know what I mean...

To that end, I think that Past Tense showed that issue a bit better- the oppression of all kinds of people- different genders and colours- and that needed to stop. Duet too- especially when it comes to people, or even a people who has a collective has wronged someone or another group.

That was one of the really cool twists on Duet that I loved. When Kira had to admit that no, it was not right to kill Marritza simply because he was Cardassian...that was tremendous. That's the other side that so often isn't addressed: the cruel acts against Bajorans were awful, that the Cardassians committed.

But one of the first steps towards real reconciliation is to realize that turnabout is NOT fair play. Two wrongs don't make a right.
