Best TNG Episode

I just watched "Lower Decks" again recently. I'd forgotten just how good that episode was. I think it's one of the best eps Next Gen did, certainly it was something a bit new and different.

I need to mention Descent too. I don't think I could make a case for the whole episode as being among the best of Next Gen - there're many better - but the scene where Beverly's in command of the Enterprise and takes out a Borg cube is a true highlight of the show for me.

I first saw it when I was nine, and from then on whenever we played pretend Star Trek I was absolutely adamant that the girls could go on away missions at the far side of the park just as well as the boys.

I've got to vote Best of Both Worlds. It was the two parter that took TNG officially further then TOS, with a 4th Season. It gave the Federation an enemy that they could credibly fear.

Lower Decks is one of my favourites too. The ending was quite overwhelming.

That is another good episode. However, my favorite is Yesterday's Enterprise. I don't even know why I like it so much, but I always have!!

I chose Best of Both Worlds. Everything in TNG seemed to mesh right around the time this piece aired. The plot was well setup from "Q Who?" and almost immediately I knew this one was going to be something special. The music was great, the plot flowed well, and the atmosphere was perfect. It's also the best cliffhanger I've ever seen.

"Q Who?" and "Yesterday's Enterprise" are way up there with this one. The 3rd season really had some gems. The problem I had with TNG in later years was the move away from central plots and the tendency towards character specific stories. It really dragged the series down when they almost went into a rotation where it was like - ok this week we're due a Data episode, next it has to be a Crusher, oh and we're due a Troi as well. That's not to say there weren't some great episodes which sort of shunned the main cast with exception of 1 guy, but in general my favorite episodes all seem to come from the Enterprise facing a problem, and not 1 cast member.

Just to add one more to the discussion: I just watched "Ship in a Bottle" for the first time and found it very interesting. For some reason I like many of the episodes centered around the holodeck. They pose questions about simulation technique that are soon in everymans hand! (Ok maybe not very soon, but computer science is a quick one...)

I voted 'Other.' "The Inner Light" is by far my favorite TNG episode. It may, in fact, be my favorite episode of any of the series. I've gone out of the way to make sure I catch a re-run of it a few times. Stewart's acting is fantastic, and, well, everything about it is just fantastic. Kamin realizing what's going on as the probe launches is just an amazing moment.

I voted for Tapestry, but The Inner Light should at least be listed in the poll.

Best of Both Worlds...
The Borg kidnapped Picard and assimilated him!

For me, nothing that happened on this show ever topped it.
