Best TMP Enterprise Model For a Shelf

DeepSpaceYorks

Commander
Red Shirt
I really would like a nice bookcase shelf sized model/toy of the refit Enterprise from TMP, not the Enterprise -A please. I know next to nothing about toys/models so can some kind soul please help? Don't suppose anyone knows of a V'ger model as well?

I'd also love a V'Ger model! :)

As for the Enterprise, it really depends on what you want out of the toy or model. If you don't mind some inaccuracy, Diamond Select released a very nice "Wrath of Khan" Enterprise to coincide with that film's 30th anniversary, which is to this day the closest we have to a toy of the TMP Enterprise. If you don't mind some assembly, or are looking for a true model, the Round 2 models 1/1000 scale TMP Enterprise also looks particularly nice, and although I have no firsthand experience with it, I have contemplated buying one for myself.

Honorable mention goes to the Hot Wheels TMP Enterprise that was released in 2009 to coincide with the new movie, which I also used to own. It was about 5 or 6 inches long (despite the supposed 1/50 scale, which was totally inaccurate) and mostly plastic, but very nice all the same.

Well since I, sadly, am the worlds least practical man an actual model that requires building is not for me. I am, however, intrigued by the HotWheels you mentioned so I'll investigate that further.

The only downside I can see for the Hot Wheels toy is that, due to it being released almost ten years ago, it is a bit rare and therefore quite expensive for what it is, at least on amazon. I haven't checked ebay, but it might be cheaper there. Also, there is a Comic-con exclusive variant of the Hot Wheels toy that depicts the ship as she was seen in the travel pod scene, with a clear drydock container and decals that make it look like the ship is still being refitted. I'm not sure how rare or expensive that variant would be, but it would definitely be a cool display piece! :)

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but what is the difference (exterior-wise) between the TMP Enterprise and the 1701-A, other than the markings of "NCC-1701-A?"

What are the inaccuracies with the DS model? I own both the 1701 and 1701A from DS and I don't see any glaring inaccuracies. In fact, for a "toy" I think it is amazingly accurate in terms of the sculpt.

I think it is just the paint job.
Someone was saying on the site last week windows were removed from somewhere on the model (sorry, I don’t know the specifics - my guess is it happened when they reversed the battle damage applied to the model for TSFS).

I’d second the use of the Diamond Select WoK Enterprise, that’s my “TMP” Enterprise.

Please don't misunderstand, I ADORE my DST TWOK Enterprise. Like I said, it's the best representation unless you have the time and talent to build a model that would be to your liking. I guess it's just a few minor details that do kind of bother me. The biggest issue I have is with the paint job around the area around the deflector and the base of the neck/nacelle pylons on the DST model, which is a shade of sort of a turquoise green that, in my mind, should be either much more pale in color, and subtle so it blends in better with the pearlescent paint of the rest of the ship. For example, compare the two images below:

This link leads to an image of the DST ship:

This link is a screencap from the first film.

The rest is personal preference, such as I wish the deflector lit up warm beige instead of blue, but again, that's just personal taste.

Years ago, I found a TWOK refit Enterprise and a TUC Refit Enterprise-A at a local comic shop. I bought the former, with the intention of getting the latter at some point off Amazon for $60. They have since sold out, and for years I had been searching for an affordable DST Enterprise A.

Today, I went to a local flea market and found one brand new for $40. I got super excited but kept a poker face long enough to buy it on the spot and take it home. The same model goes for $200 to $300 now on ebay now that it appears DST is not making the anymore. (or releasing the RELIANT for that matter!)

I can tell you that there are a few differences between the two. I haven't opened the Enterprise A yet, but it appears the TWOK Enterprise has a pearlescent white paint scheme, whereas the Enterprise A is a more dull grey. Also, the painted-in windows behind the bridge on the Enterprise A are removed and replaced with clear plastic windows with the hull painted around them for a cooler (imo) lighting effect. The whole lighting effect in general on the Enterprise A seems sharper. I think i uses brighter LEDs than the older TWOK models.

That being said, the physical model is the same (aside from the obvious difference in ship registry) . However, the paint application, sound effects, and some of the lighting details are different. A lot of the lighting effects on the TWOK model are accomplished by light bleeding through the plastic. The Enterprise A however appears to use bright white and blue LEDs and clear plastic components, albeit with some light still bleeding through the plastic, to accomplish the light effects.

I’d recommend you go for the Diamond Select model. There are a few variations. My favourite is the rather rare, self destruct one, from TSFS.

i recommend the bandai pre-painted, snap together refit enterprise model. i had it years ago until my roommate at the time dropped something heavy on it. but it was beautiful RIP:

a little pricey on amazon, but i'd hunt around ebay.

I whole heartily agree. It is also fully lighted and the aztecing uses gloss and flat whites which looks great without the checkerboard look most have. Bandai uses clear plastic wedge interior sections seating into hull holes for light transmission, which works very well. The Bandai Trek kits are wonderful- I have a number of them and wish they were still in production
