I can't believe the Gangsta Rap and John Williams Tribute aren't doing better! :rommie: I woulda voted for the Gangsta Rap too if I'd given us six votes or so...but ya gotta draw the line somewhere.

Sometimes I just start singing out of nowhere, "Yoda - why ya bein a playa hatah?"
The animated version far superior to the film-clip version presented in this thread.

Oh, and it's both phenomenal and tragic that RVD2 is lightyears better than the much-hyped Obi-Wan/Anakin duel of ROTS. Just goes to show that one doesn't need a huge budget to create palpable tension and a mesmerizing lightsaber duel.

I debated whether to use the animated Gangsta Rap video - it was the first one I saw, only later did I realize there was a live-action (original?) - but for whatever reason, I find the live-action one a bit funnier.

Tell me about it! It wasn't until I saw RVD2 that I realized that I can't remember any of the duels in the PT, don't remember caring about them one way or the other, yet I keep watching RVD2 over and over in a weirdly addictive way.

It can't be the music because as good as it is, it's competing with JOHN WILLIAMS!!! music, the one unvaryingly successful element in Star Wars. There's no backstory, no emotional context, we have no idea who these guys are or why they're fighting, or if one is supposed to be a Jedi and the other a Sith (they both fight pretty dirty :rommie:) or who we're supposed to root for, assuming we're supposed to root for anyone. The fight works on pure choreography alone.

See, to me, "Duality" suffers from the same problems as the PT duels: Flash and whizbang visuals with no real palpable danger to the fight. I mean, double-bladed lightsabers? Attack of the remotes? Hopping and flipping and twirling? Don't get me wrong, "Duality" features a nice little storyline, good effects (far better than I could ever dream of doing on my own), and a great deal of effort.

It just feels like a case study in everything the PT did wrong -- in contrast to RVD2 which, to me at least, feels like a real battle between two characters who want nothing more than to dispose of each other.

Oh, it's as much an FX demonstration as a fight, to be sure. It really doesn't pretend to be more though, so I'm okay with that.

I can't believe I forgot this in the last thread....but no fanfilm thread is complete without a mention of these two:

Episode 2: The Empire Strikes Backyard

(Part 1 of 5, find the rest on YouTube)

Episode 3: The Emperor's New Clones
[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv0ni_YhrEo[/yt]
(Part 1 of 8, find the rest on YouTube)

These are long, but worth it.

I agree. The fact that two fanboys can whomp up enough acting prowess to really convey murderous intent demonstrates that it can't be that hard for real actors to do. That's what makes it so utterly criminal that the PT duels seem so stagey and tame. WTF???
