Best Single Episode Perfomance

IMO:

Shatner/Kirk: TOS (S1) - "The Corbomite Manuever"

Nimoy/Spock: TOS (S2) - "Journey To Babel"

Kelly/McCoy: TOS (S1) - "City On The Edge Of Forever"

I can't remember what I said at the beginning of this thread but it's probably changed. I will go with:

Shatner/Kirk: "Obsession"

Nimoy/Spock: "City"

Kelley/McCoy: "Friday's Child" although "Amok Time" and "The Immunity Syndrome" are contenders.

Doohan/Scotty: "A Taste of Armageddon" by a hair over "Friday's Child" and "Wolf in the Fold." This week.

For the best overall performance considering the four together, the answer may well be "Metamorphosis." "City" is certainly a contender there as well. As is "Friday's Child."

But honestly, there are so many good performances, particularly from Shatner, Nimoy, and Doohan, that it's hard to choose. For me, Kelley has fewer above-average performances, but that's the writing. When McCoy was written well (per my opinion of course), Kelley was fantastic. It was never Kelley, it was the material. When they toned down the be-a-foil-for-Spock business a little, it was just great.

Shatner did most of the heavy lifting in the series. As much as the public went to Spock and Nimoy felt that HE deserved to be the star, Shatner did the really hard work. He was the handsome heroic lead seen in every 60's adventure series on the air. Shatner, though, made it different. His style, his energy, his technique was on display each and every week. In the third season, Nimoy had checked out for the most part, but Shatner was out in front, always giving his most honest effort. I've seen Shatner slack off on other shows (SeaQUest as an example) but never on Trek.

Over the top? Sure, sometimes, but for the majority of the series, he was on point. So it's hard for me to single out just one episode where he was at his best. Over the years, I've enjoyed things he would bring to scenes.

How he did his burn in The Enterprise Incident before flipping out.
The way he controls his voice and body to be someone totally different in Turnabout Intruder (and with the flu, no less)
His passionate pleas to Dehner in the climax of WMNHGB (which I really felt helped sell this series)
His quiet self doubt in Balance of Terror
His charm and lightness in Court Martial when meeting Areel
His desperation and personal agony just as M5 was about to destroy the Excalibur in The Ultimate Computer ("Daystrum!")

I will always love William Shatner as Kirk. It's among his best work.

I disagree. Nimoy had lots of good performances in Season 3. I don't believe Season 3 was that bad. Some of my favourite episodes are from Season 3 and some because of Nimoy's great performances.

Not to say that Shatner didn't have great performances in Season 3.

Doohan/Scotty was great in all of his appearances, but in "A Taste of Armageddon", this cemented his role as a major supporting character on the series. My favorite scenes are the on again, off again conversations between Scott, Anan and Fox. When Anon threatened Scott with:
ANAN: We hold your Captain, his party, your Ambassador and his party prisoners. Unless you immediately start transportation of all personnel aboard your ship to the surface, the hostages will be killed. You have thirty minutes.
And later, Scotty one-ups Anan with:
SCOTT: All cities and installations on Eminiar Seven have been located, identified, and fed into our fire-control system. In one hour and forty five minutes, the entire inhabited surface of your planet will be destroyed. You have that long to surrender your hostages.
ANAN: What can I do? Somebody, please tell me.
At that point, Anan's will was crushed and in the confusion, Kirk jumps the guards and takes over the council chamber.

I was never so proud of Scotty and Doohan's performance.

Heh. Actually I think Bartell LaRue did do a great job with Yarnek's voice in The Savage Curtain. He was assisted by some outstanding dialogue for the character.
