Best Series Finales EVER!!!

For comedy, it's Newhart hands down.
.....

110% in agreement hear :guffaw:, I was ROFLMFAO.

ENT didn't have a series finale. It had a bowel movement.

The huge problem I had with the DS9 finale was just how anti-climactic and lame it was. Sisko's huge religious destiny was to... *drum roll* toss a book into a fire! Ooo! Not to mention almost every second of the climactic space battle was stock footage. I remember my very first post here was a criticism of the DS9 finale and my counter-idea that the final battle took place at DS9 with the Dominion allying with the Pagh Wraiths to kill the Prophets or something like that. And did we really need yet ANOTHER five minutes of Vic Fontaine singing? Jesus.

I can't say enough about the series finale of "Angel".

News of cancellation didn't give enough tiem to tie it up properly so the plot had to be forced in, but he worked it in there so well, and the episode was so dramatic (and poor Lindsey), and then ending in a dark rainy alley where the odds appeared to be completely stacked against them. It's one of the things I LOVED about "Serenity" -- good people trying to do the right thing in the face of overwhelming adversaries.

The only thing that bugs me about Angel finale was I wished Joss Whedon had gone with the episode title "Fight the Good Fight" as a little homage to what they use to say about his quest early into the show.

To me, it summed up everything I dislike about Whedon. He hates human characters and only likes those with powers. So naturally, instead of it being longtime characters Wes, Angel, and Gunn making the last stand it's also rans Spike(who Angel fans resented) and brand new character Illyira( Fred, who was given The Willow treatment and turned into a completely new character. Because again, Whedon hates normal people because he can't relate to them.) who stand with Angel. The always prepared Wes goes out with a wimper, as does Gunn. And it ends on a depressing cliffhanger without any sense closure. The Soprono's ending was better then Angel's imo.

Wonder Years - That monologue at the end of the ep was just incredible. Loved how it touched on all the main characters and what happened to them

Newhart - Totally novel idea. Fun way to make light of the fact that he'd had two long running hit shows within something like 15 years.

TNG - I just love the bookend feeling of it.

MASH - 25 years later and it's still one of the best eps I've ever watched of any show. Throwing in that last goodbye written in rocks there at the end as the helicopter leaves just brings tears to the eye.

I'm mighty fussy about my endings.

TNG: Perfect way to end the series. Let nothing horrid happen and they're sailing off to further adventures. I don't count the lousy (minus First Contact, which was nominal) movies.

Six Feet Under. Absolute best finale of a series I've ever seen. Grand Slam.

Quantum Leap. Even though it was kind of sad, it was perfect.

I don't count M*A*S*H* For years, I watched that show devotedly. So here comes the end, it's time to go home and what the fuck do they do? Have Hawkeye go kind of bonkers. BULLSHIT! GYP!

Six Feet Under. Absolute best finale of a series I've ever seen. Grand Slam.

Completely agreed. The only series finale that made me weep like a blubbering little girl. Well, except for Enterprise, but those were tears of rage.

Angel - amazing, even though I wish it didn't end on a cliffhanger (but I understand it)
DS9 - overall, a pretty satisfying conclusion
TNG - great way to end it

I'm actually pretty bitter about BSG's ending. It's too bad I can't include it on this list.

MASH
Newhart
TNG
Blake's 7
Life on Mars (UK)
Boston Legal
Magnum, PI
Cheers
Mary Tyler Moore Show

MASH and Cheers are near the top of the list for me, although I still think that Diane and Sam should've gotten married at the end. I liked the finale for Alias, but I know a lot of other people didn't. I also enjoyed that, in the last MST3K episode, Mike and the Bots were still watching movies together after the SOL crashed to earth. The Newhart finale is the most memorable, however, especially since the ending never leaked out. There was a vague rumor that Bob would die in the episode, but nobody was expecting the real twist.

I really admire the finales of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Newhart, Arrested Development, TNG, and Angel, but I'm another person who thinks the Six Feet Under finale is in a league of its own.

Angel
Babylon 5
Code Geass
Hercules: TLJ (The true finale on Xena)
Star Trek: TNG
Superman: TAS

Oh forgot ... I knew there was one niggling away at the back of the head. Technically it may not be called a finale but none have been made since and the ending didn't lend it to such either - though ways around granted.

But the comedy Blackadder Goes Forth ... when they blow the whistles and go over the top. After absolutely hilarious episodes and adventures and classic lines it ended with the most poignant and down beat and fitting ending ever.

But also again vote for Six Feet Under

BSG
B5
The Shield
Life on Mars UK

It's impossible to call which is the better of those four, but any one of them is great in its own right.
