Best scifi cartoon series?

animated science fiction

  • Total voters
    62
  • Poll closed .
Well, I think I'm over the shock of seeing Rocko's Modern Life in a science fiction poll, so here's my vote.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It has universe sized mecha throwing literal galaxies like ninja stars at each other. It also has extremely well developed characters, a unique plot, and completely deconstructs/reconstructs the stale mecha genre but who cares about that. Galaxy Ninja Stars!

Runner ups, in no particular order, are...

Beast Wars
Reboot
Code Geass
Invader Zim

Futurama. Of the choices given, I'd also give an honorable mention to Cowboy Bebop, though I prefer Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex to Bebop.

theres only like 5ish scifi shows on that list. i mean rocko's modern life? it makes no sense. Therefore:

Space Runaway Ideon!

where else can you see a child get decapitated by a laserbeam?

(actually its pretty bad mostly.)

the various gundam shows include both some of the best and some of the worst scifi cartoons in my opinion. excepting the 08th MS squad-team-force miniseries-series, the general rule is it gets worse as it goes on.

The Seikai Trilogy: Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars, and Banner of the Stars II.

Epic space opera.

Is that Anime? Lets leave anime out of this.
Then let's just shut down this entire thread because many of the best sci-fi cartoons are anime.

And sanitized fanwank of Imperial Japan/Imperial Japanese Navy and the Great East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.
Since I and 99.4% of those who watched it couldn't care less about that, it doesn't bother me one bit.

Cast my vote too for Star Blazers, Robotech, Battle of the Superfriends, Battle of the Planets and Thundarr (no particular order). Can someone re-do the poll?

I suggested leaving Anime out of this because I consider anime to be a somewhat different category than simple "cartoons." I consider "cartoons" to be primarily for kids or kid/family friendly. Most anime is neither and it seems inappropriate to compare them with cartoons.

Anime tends to be more sophisticated and less censored than American cartoons, but anime like One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail, and Full Metal Alchemist are aimed at kids just as much as Ben 10 or My Little Pony. Shonen and Shojo anime should definitely count if we're talking about shows primarily for kids.

Jonny Quest without a doubt if you consider it enough sci-fi to qualify.

It's not a great show. but Quest's creator Doug Wildey went on to do the Planet of the Apes Cartoon.

Jonny Quest probably fits more comfortably into the category "Adventure," but there is no question that it was pushing the limits of Jet Age science so it seems reasonable to call at least some of it science fiction.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest clearly featured scifi elements.

what ranks in the top 10 animated television science fiction series?

It shows how young the pollster is that Jonny Quest didn't make it onto the list.

They used rocket packs, hovercraft, crawling submersibles, submarines that launched fighters, interdimensional monsters and robot spies. That show is as much science fiction as anything else listed.

Considering the inclusion of Transformers and the time period of most of the rest of the poll list, I'm surprised (Starship Troopers)Roughnecks didn't even make the list

ok, you can't say 'keep the anime out of here because its not for kids' when Drawn Together is on the fucking poll.

how about MASK or Bucky o'Hare? now those were cool cartoons.
