Best Sci Fi movie

Some of my favorite movies are on that thread of hated movies :D

The Matrix series
Star Trek II and IV
(didn't like Star Trek the pajama party)
Gattaca
Blade Runner
Ultra Violet
5th Element
Dune
Star Wars (4-6)
Westworld
Mad Max series
Tron
MiB 1&2
Frequency
Sin City
Watchmen

I just realized I forgot "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"! I can't believe it, since there's no way I've enjoyed any sci-fi movie more (or more times) than that one, so I guess my top five ranking would be:

1) Terminator 2: Judgment Day
2) Star Trek: First Contact
3) Twelve Monkeys
4) The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
5) Alien

Honourable mention to "The X-Files" (aka "Fight the Future"). Nice to see "Men in Black" being mentioned. I just saw "Them!" recently and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves sci-fi. It is much better than its goofy premise suggests.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back
Star Trek 09
Star Trek First Contact is one of the best out of the TNG movies, it is great.

To add to those already listed:

The Fountain
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Re: er...worst

Stars Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
Highlander II: The Quickening
Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time
LOL.

Let me see if I can add to that great list...
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Stars Wars: Episode II: AOTC
(IMHO solely for the acting by Hayden Christensen)

Moonraker
Man, I love Moonraker.:(

Since it calls for one... probably The Truman Show.

When I was in university, I took a class called Apocalyptic Science Fiction and the teacher asked every student what their favourite science fiction movie was. I said, "Star Trek: First Contact" and everyone laughed at me. Not because of which Star Trek movie I mentioned, but the fact that I picked a Star Trek movie. I know because they were already starting to laugh after I'd only say Star Trek. :( Has anyone else ever been looked down upon for considering a Star Trek movie near the pinnacle of sci-fi?

Ah, I see now why you take it personally. :(

As for the question, I dunno. Anybody that's into "good" or "hard" or "intellectual" sci-fi or whatever is already a huge Goddamn nerd, so being condescended to by them for being a nerd myself is logically impossible.

Aww there's nothing to be ashamed of if you are a Trek fan not that I been one when I was growing up I became a fan after last summer's Star Trek film and have loved Star Trek ever since.
